@ KC,

is there a possibility that even after cleaning the motherboard the laptop still wont work?

Yes, it's possible. It depends on the damage. If you see a lot of corrosion, most likely cleaning will not work.

and is it a really bad thing if the motherboard gets damaged?

It means you'll have to replace the motherboard and Sony motherboards aver very expensive. Probably it's better to buy a new laptop.

@ KC,

i recently and accidentally spilled iced tea on the lower left hand side corner of my sony vaio laptop including the touch pad. it took a while for me to turn it off, then before i could remove the battery the screen turned weird, it was filled with different colors, and then it died. i’ve drained and dried it overnight and it wont turn back on. is it really broken or is there a way to bring it back to life once more?

Sounds like the motherboard was damaged.

Hi I recently spilt milk (with sugar) on my Dell Inspiron laptop. It was only a little bit of milk on the mousepad, it started beeping and making static noises and then I turned it off immediately and left it to dry for a week. It works perfectly fine now, BUT my speakers appear to be damaged! Any advice would be great. Thanks

A drink was spilled on a Compaq presario V5000. The unit was shut off and after drying it off it we powered up but nothing no drive noise or fan operation. Now it won't even power up I can get a new moterboartd for around 50 Dollars. is there a way of telling what needs replaced prior to getting a new Motherboard?

Juice was spilled on my laptop keyboard. I cleaned keyboard thoroughly. The \ key is acting as if it is stuck. I replaced the keyboard, the issue persists. When I replaced keyboard I checked what connection I could see and everything look good with no sticky debris. With new keyboard installed the problem still persists. Could it be the motherboard? Should I just take it in to someone? Thanks.

roly,

Can I try a few things just to be sure that it is truly beyond repair without spending anything?

Disassemble the laptop as much as you can. Leave only three main components: motherboard, CPU and memory. Make sure all three components are properly connected to each other. Turn it on with an external monitor attached. Do you get anything?

my Toshiba Satellite L30 was under one meter of water for about six hours.

Most likely that this unit is beyond economical repair.
