It takes a long time to install the operating system and laptop freezes while installing

I have a Toshiba 6100. My problem is that I can not install any operation system (Windows XP). It takes a long time, and then while installing it freezes.
I’ve tried to install Win XP in another Notebook then put the HDD into the 6100.After booting the system freezes. How can I fix it?

It is very possible that the hard drive is bad and it should be replaced. You can test the hard drive if you download and run DFT – drive fitness test utility. I use this utility all the time. It is free and very helpful. You can download DFT utility from this website and run it from a floppy disk or make a bootable CD. Here is my previous post about the same problem with Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100.

By the way, if you bought this laptop in the United States, check Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 settlement website first.

I cannot say exactly what is wrong with the laptop with looking at it. From my experience I would say it is very possible that the laptop has system board / power board issue and these parts have to be replaced.

    Hi,

    Konnichiwa,

Thank you very for answering our problem regarding laptop problem.

Last week I bought Japanese Model Gateway laptop. Model MX6915J. I tried to change japanese window XP home SP2 to english version. But, I encountered problem formatting.

It boot up in my cd installer but when it reach formatting the hard drive portion it quit (F3). Saying that it cannot found hard drive. But the original japanese cd recovery works fine and hard drive using japanese OS works fine also.

Do you have any idea about it? My friend said maybe the hard drive is lock.Tonight i will try to change the harddrive and see what happen.

    Regards

    Kennedi,
I have no idea what’s going on. If the original Japanese recover CD works fine, probably there is nothing wrong with the hard drive. Weird. Test the original hard drive with Hitachi’s drive fitness test, run an advanced test and see if the hard drive passes it.
Please let me know if replacing the hard drive helps. I’ve never seen problem like that before.
