My laptop was dropped onto the side containing a PCMCIA wireless card and the wireless card connector is broken now
I have a model 1405-s151 Toshiba. It suffered a 1 foot drop onto the side containing a PCMCIA wireless card.
This resulted in the wireless card driving into the connector with enough force as to crack off the connector from the motherboard. My question is this, where can I get a replacement surface mount connector for the PCMCIA options? It is labeled on the motherboard, PJ3332. The connector appears to be all one piece inclusive of the card holder. Any help would be appreciated. All other functions on the laptop work okay.
The PC card connector (PC card holder) is a separate part in this model and you can find it on the Internet if you search by the part number. Toshiba part number for the PC card connector is P000323270. I searched on google by the part number and found it right away for $35. Unfortunately, if the connector on the motherboard itself is cracked, then you have to replace the entire motherboard. I hope it helps.

I recently brought a Packard Bell easy notebook MV45-120. After about a month of having it i notice that the notebook stopped going into standby mode when the lid was closed, I called the store that i brought it from and they said to do a system resore and that should resolve the problem. I tried this and it is stil not working – then i dropped the laptop on the living room floor it switched it self and now the actually lid will not stay closed on it’s own and the button that you used to open it is stif. Can i fix this problem myself ? it’s still under warranty will the shop be able to tell that i dropped it even thou it was not working properly before i dropped it and they know that? Thanks

I recently dropped my laptom on the corner where battery is located and the battery won’t charge now. Am I going to have to replece the battery? Is it safe to touch (ie is it leaking acid, etc.)? Thanks.

Will,
If the battery was physically damaged then probably you’ll have to replace it.
If the battery case wasn’t damaged, then there is no simple answer to your question. It’s possible that the battery is bad now, but it’s also possible that there is something wrong with the motherboard. Ideally you should test the laptop with another known good battery and see if it charges. Without this test it’s impossible to say what is wrong.

I dropped my Dell Inspiron 8200 on wireless card side. The first time turned it on Windows booted up, tried to insert new card and screen went blank. Now when turned on it just shows power light for a few seconds then goes to the battery status light . No fans come on, no flicker on screen, just blank, no hard drive sounds. I took it apart today, found the connector for the card broken and rattling around loose, also found unlatched cover that holds the CPU and the heat diffuser(?) tight. removed battery, hard drive, clean and replaced everything, removed the broken connector for card. Tried to start it again but no change. where can I go from here?

I have a Toshiba Tecra and it was pulled off the table onto a tile floor by our puppy running mach 2 with the cord in her mouth this week.
I will say it’s a super tough computer and has taken several spills before, but this one was the worst to date.
Anyway, the battery flew out of the case. I put it back in, powered it back up and it works (amazing, huh?).. ONLY when on AC. The battery light indicator says it’s charging, the power module says it’s 100% charged, but it can’t seem to pull from that charge.
Anything I can do about this? Right now my laptop has become a desktop especially since it had been dropped on the power cord a year or so ago and the connection at the motherboard is super sensitive and if I move a little it looses power and I loose what I was working on and have to reboot.
Thanks!

Gina,
What happens if you start the laptop from the AC adapter and later, when it’s booted to the desktop, you unplug the adpater? Will it turn off or continue running on from the battery?

If I unplug it (or the cord moves a little) it shuts off instantly.

Following up with an update from my last comment-
Turns out there is plastic around the battery terminals- as a safety feature that you can’t use a different sized battery, I’m assuming.
Anyway- some of that was broken in the fall and when the broken bits were cleared off (ok, essentally all the plastic taken off) and the metal terminals are left exposed, it works again.
Seriously, I cannot believe how this thing has continued to work after all the use and abuse it’s taken.
