Toshiba Satellite 1410 screen won’t stay upright
My daughter’s Toshiba Satellite 1410 screen won’t stay upright – just happened today – any thoughts on how to tighten?
If the laptop display just suddenly became loose and doesn’t stay upright, them most likely the display hinge or hinges are broken. You cannot really tighten a broken hinge, you have to replace it. To replace the display hinge in this model you have to take apart the display assembly and remove the top cover from the laptop base. Hinges are pretty expensive; you can find them on the internet around $70 a piece plus shipping cost. If you want to replace them yourself, I can help you to find the part number so you can search for it on the net. Leave a comment with the laptop full name and model, something like Toshiba Satellite 1410-S173, PS141U-01F3WV

I have a toshiba satellite L35 S2194, and need the hinge that holds the whole lcd assembly to the body, the hinge that tilts your screen forward and backward, I have the old one off but trying to find a replacement with no luck, any ideas?

My Toshiba P205_S6287 was knocked off a table. It is working still however the 9″ plastic hinge attaching the top (lid) and bottom (base)broke on the left side. The wires that go through that part are being pinched as small area of solid pixels appear on the display until I move the lid to a different position. I can’t determine which parts I’d need to fix the problem assuming it’s repairable. I’m concerned about further damaging the display wires opening and closing the lid. The lid is, of course, unstable.
Parts suppliers are also unsure as one said I needed a LCD cover assembly but another thought I needed a base assembly.
There’s a good photo (7th one down)of the part that’s broken here:

Thanks for this site. Very helpful.

I have a Toshiba Tecra M2 S630 and was able to fix my left hinge by removing it and drilling out the rivet and replacing it with a 6-32×1/4 inch machine screw and a nut. Total cost was $4 for a package of nuts and screws from Radio Shack.

I completed my hinge repair on Toshiba Satellite M60 ( PSM60U-08J021 ). I used the instructions linked below regarding base assembly, steps 1, 7, 8, 11, and 12. I also used the instructions linked below regarding the top/LCD assembly, steps 1 thru 5 and step 8.
I did the steps for the base first, then the steps for the top to take apart; and the same steps in reverse to put back together.
I did not disconnect any cables or wires.
I had a little difficulty with the wires near the hinges when putting back together. As you disassemble, really look and note the position of the wires in the area of the hinges under the half circle covers that are part of the keyboard securing strip. I also had some trouble with putting that keyboard securing strip back on, partly because of the wires, but also just because it seemed to need exact left-right positioning.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M60 (PSM60U-08J021) with a broken hinge. I found the replacement part at National Parts Depot for $10 plus shipping.
My question: To install the new hinge, do I really have to disassemble as much as the instructions linked below indicate? Those instructions are for an A45, but I haven’t found instructions for any other Satellite model.
Thanks for your great info.

My daughter’s Sony VGN-CR120 right hinge broke. I got the part and got the screen out. From what I found on the internet, it looks like I have to pry up the top plastic around the keyboard. Thats where I’m hesitating. I found a service manual for a VGN-C but the top plastic is a little different than this one.
Do you know if I really just pry the plastic top off carefully so I can get to the hinge screws?
Thanks in advance.

Ellen,
You’ll need to replace both laptop hinges. It’s not an easy fix because it’s necessary to take apart the whole laptop.
If you have no experience fixing laptops, I wouldn’t do that.

Toshiba Satellite A25-S207 Laptops cluch in not holding up the screen. Screen falls down and will not stay up.

Michelle,
It depends on the LCD screen size in your laptop. Some laptops come with a 14.1″ LCD screen and some with 15.4″ screens. I’ll give you part numbers for display hinges for both screens.
I published the complete answer in the following post:
Display hinges for Toshiba Satellite L35 laptop.

I am trying to find the left hinge ( or both ) for a Toshiba Satellite L35 series ( L35-S2194 ) I have tried to order them online and only got sent the right side. I am getting quite annoyed as you can imagine. Do you know where I can buy both hinges or the left. Website or company info is fine. I live in the US but will order outside of US if I have to. I have contacted every company I could find using the part number as my search and am not getting anywhere. I also called Toshiba a million times… Thanks a million if I can be helped!!

I have a Satellite 1400 (without Wifi).
The hinges for this model are ONE piece each not two according to the supplier.
Part number are:
P000349060 - RIGHT SIDE $25 CDN
P000349070 - LEFT SIDE $25 CDN
In short, $50 Canadian to replace the two hinges.
Actually, if you live in Toronto, ON; you can buy the hinges directly from Toshiba’s part distributer (IBM, Toshiba, Dell, etc uses this company.)
CCSI – Their number is 416-502-3090 (I got their from Toshiba Canada );
They are way cheaper than online!

I have a different problem with my hinges. They are actually stuck. I was no longer able to open my laptop, so I disassembled it. I was wondering if there was anything I can do to “unstick” the hinges?
Thank you,
Josh

Jim,
Apparently, a lot of people have problems with Satellite A10/A15 hinges. I posted your question and some suggestions here: Replacing hinges on a Toshiba Satellite A10 A15 laptop

Thank you for this excellent site! Very helpful, and very much appreciated!! My question to you is: Do you know if the hinges for a Toshiba Satellite A15-s157 PSA10U-01C8WV are interchangeable? For example, would the hinges from an a15-s127 wotk on a Toshiba Satellite A15-s157 PSA10U-01C8WV? I had also herd that some tecra models, and some a10 models would also work for my Toshiba Satellite A15-s157 PSA10U-01C8WV but before I buy I wanted to ask you about interchangeabilty of these parts, since you are far more experienced and knowledgable with all these models..and, Thank you in advance (-:

Thanks for the awesome website. Very informative!
I have the same problem with my Toshiba Satellite A40 (PSA40C-0F1LR). Both hinges are broken. I’ve looked around and am not sure of the part number so am afraid to buy the wrong thing. I’d really appreciate it if you could tell me the part numbers for both Left and Right hinges for my laptop. Many thanks!
Max

Anchorblew,
It’s really hard to tell without knowing the part number. The hinge looks OK but you’ll have to confirm the part number.
Here’s what you are looking for for Toshiba 2455-S305 (PS245U-075RSV):
Left hinge: P000368300
Right hinge: P000368310
I don’t have instructions for this particular model.

Mandy Moo,
Sorry, I cannot help with European laptop models (I don’t have part listings). I can help only with laptops sold in the United States.

A couple months ago my laptop (Toshiba 2455-S305 PS245U-075RSV) screen made snapping sound when I opened it. Now the LCD screen no longer stay up on its own. The right brake hinge must be completely broken since the assembly in that area has almost a 1/4″ of play in all directions. I found this item on ebay
Is it the item I’m looking for? Do you have a disassembly guide for replacing the hinge? Where is a good place to purchase discounted screen hinges if the aforementioned item isn’t the one that I am needing?
Thank you in advance

Hello, I have a Toshiba Satellite PSA40-702, model number – PSA40E-0E4N1-EN and both hinges seem to be cracked. Yesterday the left hinge cracked open completely and the screen will not stay up at all!
Do you know the hinge part numbers I would need please? Both left and right. Also need it from somewhere who would deliver to the UK.
Thank you!
