Toshiba Satellite 1410 screen won’t stay upright
My daughter’s Toshiba Satellite 1410 screen won’t stay upright – just happened today – any thoughts on how to tighten?
If the laptop display just suddenly became loose and doesn’t stay upright, them most likely the display hinge or hinges are broken. You cannot really tighten a broken hinge, you have to replace it. To replace the display hinge in this model you have to take apart the display assembly and remove the top cover from the laptop base. Hinges are pretty expensive; you can find them on the internet around $70 a piece plus shipping cost. If you want to replace them yourself, I can help you to find the part number so you can search for it on the net. Leave a comment with the laptop full name and model, something like Toshiba Satellite 1410-S173, PS141U-01F3WV

Hi,
The portion that supports the hinges broke on my Toshiba P25 laptop. Any suggestions ?
Thanks,
Debashish

Debashish,
Witch part of the hinges you’re talking about? Is it located inside the display assembly, or right under where the hinges connect to the base? Please give me a better description.

I have a Toshiba Satallite 2590 XDVD would you be able to let me know the part No for the hinges that have now become too loose.
Many thanks John

McMurray,
It looks like hinges in this model have 2 parts – the lower hinge (probably located on the laptop base) and the upper hinge (probably located inside the display assembly). Here are part numbers for all of the parts.
Lower hinge left – P000269740
Lower hinge right – P000269750
Upper hinge left – P000271160
Upper hinge right – P000271170

Hi there,
Your website rocks! Unfortunately I have a Toshiba 2410 (PS241C-2PW9XP) which, after reading your site seems to have blown its hinges. The screen won’t stay upright at all.
Question – could you suggest the part numbers and the best disassembly guide?
Thanks in advance
Brian

Hi guys,
i have the same problem with a 2410-S203 top cover, the problem is in the left hinge. Could you suggest the part numbers and a disassembly guide ?

I’ve got a Toshiba Satellite 1415-S173 that is having hinge trouble too. It seems like the hinges are somehow pushing the speaker modules out of place as well.
I’ll take a look at the disassembly guides, but if you could get me some part numbers, that would be great. Then I can check price/availability.
January 11th, 2007 at 11:36 am
Silvia, Kane,
You can find new hinges for Toshiba Satellite 1410/1415 by the following part numbers:
P000347850 BRAKE HINGE RIGHT
P000347860 BRAKE HINGE LEFT
January 11th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
Your website is great! It has enabled me to disassemble my Satellite 1415 and I purchased replacement hinges. But now I can’t figure out how to install the new hinges. Each is a single unit and somehow it has to slip through the small hole that the speaker nestles against. Can you help? Does each hinge come apart into two pieces?
January 11th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Since my first query, I was able to get the right hinge replaced, but the hole in the base for the left hinge seems just a tiny bit too small.
January 13th, 2007 at 10:58 am
Michael,
Hinges don’t come apart into two pieces, it’s one piece. If you purchased correct hinges, there shouldn’t be any problem fitting them inside the base.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A15-S129 PSA10U-OZH6MV with hinge troubles. I know little about computer repair, so any help with replacing them would be appreciated.
January 14th, 2007 at 6:56 pm
I got a 1415-s115. The hinge underneath the speakar cover is broken. How can I open it up correctly. I looked at the sites, but they do not explain for a hinge. Are hinges really $70?!?! Isn’t that a little too excenpsive????? Thanks. Please help
January 15th, 2007 at 10:33 am
Left display hinge above power button is frozen on Toshiba 1115-S103. Can you help find replacement hinge and directions? Thanks!
January 16th, 2007 at 6:33 pm
Chip,
I don’t have instructions for this particular model. You can find instructions for other Toshiba laptops here. I think it’s not necessary to remove the entire top cover from the notebook in order to replace the broken hinges, but you still have to disassemble the display assembly.
To find new hinges, search on the Internet by following part number:
K000833530 LCD BRACKET RIGHT For Toshiba LCD
K000833540 LCD BRACKET RIGHT For Sharp, CPT, and AU LCDs
K000833570 LCD BRACKET LEFT
Before you buy them, I would recommend contact the seller and confirm that these parts will fit your laptop.

Ok,I see the steps to take apart display and remove top of laptop base…but where are the hinges?
January 22nd, 2007 at 10:20 pm
Vince,
Here they are:
For notebook with letter “S” stamped on Base in battery compartment area
Left hinge – P000377630, Right hinge – P000377640
For notebooks with letter “C” stamped on Base in battery compartment area
Left hinge- P000379650, Right hinge – P000379660
For notebooks with letter “P” stamped on Base in battery compartment area
Left hinge – P000392930, Right hinge – P000392940
If you cannot find letters “S”, “C” or “P” in the battery compartment area, look for it on the notebook base.
January 23rd, 2007 at 12:11 pm
Can’t find that anywhere on the laptop.
If it helps, my “Part Number” printed below the model number is
PSA10U-0ZH6MV
January 23rd, 2007 at 6:39 pm
Vince,
I know that’s hard to find but unfortunately I cannot help you even with the model number you provided. When I’m searching by the model number, I’m getting the same set of different hinges. This letter is not on a sticker, it’s actually stamped on plastic. The letter is small, about 4-5 millimeters tall. Look everywhere on the bottom. I know that you can find the same letter stamped on other plastic parts, but not really sure witch parts. Take a look on the back side of the LCD mask, it might be stamped on the mask too (you have to remove the mask anyway).
One day I spent about 20 minutes looking for the letter.
January 23rd, 2007 at 7:57 pm
It’s okay, i found it =) its stamped into the plastic next to the CPU. i found another site on google after reading what you wrote, and someone else with the ‘C’ designation had similar trouble =) (mine is a C)

Dear Laptop Freak,
congratulations for the awesome website. I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite M30-154 and would really appreciate your help. The left (looking at the computer) hinge broke. Precisely, the tiny, “nail like” part, connecting the large horizontal with the smaller vertical part of the hinge broke. It’s a 3 year old computer and I was wondering whether there was a way to fix it (even temporarily), rather than buying a new hinge. If however, I had to buy a new hinge, would you know the part number?
Thank you very much in advance for your help,
Nagi.
January 25th, 2007 at 9:53 pm
Nagi,
I don’t think that you can fix it, you’ll have to replace the hinge. I cannot locate parts for your model, so I took it from a Satellite M35 notebook. I think the hinges are similar, but not sure 100%. At least on the picture both laptops look the same.
Left hinge: P000385280
Right hinge: P000385290
January 30th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A45-S151 with Part No. PSA40U-0C1SNV. I have two problems. 1. I need to replace the left hinge. 2. I broke one of the connectors while disassembling the computer. BTW, thank you so much for the great disassembly instructions. I can’t believe that you take the time to help people like us. Back to problem 1. I looked at the battery compartment to see whether I have a C or an S stamped on it. I see a few S3 stamps in the compartment but I think they refer to the screw holes. There is a lone one with just an S about the same size as the S3s but there is no hole next to it. Is that what I am looking for?
Now for problem 2, which I caused, and which scares me the most. I was following the disassembly instructions for the A45. If you look at step 14 (the picture is Toshiba-SatelliteA45-hinges-14.jpg), I broke one of the male plastic connectors. I believe it is the one for the LCD switch cable. It is the connector by itself with two wires in it. Can this connector be replaced? Is it readily available?
Thank you again for the website and any help you can provide now.
February 1st, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Ron Corcuera,
Yep, that’s what you are looking for. You should use the following part numbers to find new hinges:
Left hinge: P000394150 (for letter “S”)
Right hinge: P000394160 (for letter “S”)
Did you break the right connector? How did you break it? You just pulled wires from the white mail connector (probably can put them back in place) or broke the plastic? The female connector has two pins inside. Even if the mail connector is broken, I think you still can contact wires from the mail connector directly to the pins inside the female connector and secure them with a sticky tape.
Even if you cannot fix it, it’s not critical. The lid close switch will not work, but a lot of people don’t use it anyway.

Hi,
I have owned my M30 Toshiba Laptop for 3.5 years. Today I opened the case and I heard a snap. To my surprise, the right hinge on my computer broke. The model number is M3111267P It is the Satellite type computer.
Could you please help me find the part for a right hinge when you open the computer and are looking at the screen it is the hinge on the right hand side. I don’t have a clue about where to look for the part.
Sincerely,
Patrick Ireland
February 9th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
Patrick Ireland,
I posted part numbers for Toshiba Satellite M30/M35 hinges in the comment 24. The hinges are the same across all Satellite M30/M35 models (sold in USA). I think you can use them too even though you have an European model, but just in case contact the seller to make sure there would be no compatibility issues. You can find a seller online if you search for the part number I provided in the comment 24.
February 16th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
I’ve got a Toshiba Satellite 1415 where the screen won’t stay upright anymore. Pretty certain it’s just loose hinges, as it’s gotten progressively worse. If I pull the display apart, where are the screws to adjust tension located at? Thanks.

hi, i need to replace my hinges too. what sites do you suggest that i can buy from cheap …i am a starving student
please help
the parts i need are p000377630 and p000377640
thanks
February 21st, 2007 at 8:35 pm
Jayson,
I don’t think you’ll find this magic screw, you’ll have to replace the hinges.
February 21st, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Hajni,
Check out here: sparepartswarehouse.com I would say they have a good price for hinges. If it’s still expensive you should use a wall to support the screen until you graduate and find a good paying job.
Just kidding.
I don’t know what “cheap” means for a starving student.

I have a Toshiba (laptop) Satellite 5205-S503 PS52OU-2SZRHV. When I opened it yesterday, it made some loud cracking noises and now the screen falls either forward or backward when it’s open. I’m assuming broken hinge(s) – where do I find the part(s) and manual for disassembly?? Thanks!
July 10th, 2007 at 11:06 am
Jayson, here is what was previously posted:
You can find new hinges for Toshiba Satellite 1410/1415 by the following part numbers:
P000347850 BRAKE HINGE RIGHT
P000347860 BRAKE HINGE LEFT
July 12th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
Here’s what I did…
I scavenged some sections of 1×2 wood (actually its 3/4″ by 1.75).
I then made a hinged support where the vertical section end met with the horizontal end (this enables it to be self-supporting).
–
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |o_____________
|-||_____________|
I made the horizontal section long enough to extend from the front to about 2″ past the back of the base and the vertical section tall enough to meet the top of the display when set up at a slightly rearward angle (best for my viewing pleasure).
You may need to use different lengths to match your needs, but this should give you a good idea.
parts list:
1 section of 1×2 cut into 4 (or 6 if you prefer) sections of appropriate length.
2 (or 3) hinges
6 screws per hinge
Hope this is useful as a temporary fix of for those of us that are temporarily broke.

Hey, it looks like a lot of people are having the same problem I do, but I don’t think new hinges are the answer for everybody. Read on to see what I mean.
My Toshiba A-15 S157 laptop worked great for four years, but recently the screen stopped staying up on its own. I thought a hinge was broken, but I decided to follow the disassembly instructions on
http://www.irisvista.com/tech/ before ordering new hinges, just to make sure that was really the answer. The laptop has to be almost entirely disassembled to get to the hinges, but after doing so I found that the hinges themselves were entirely intact on both sides.
A little snooping around revealed that the actual problem was that the little metal “sleeve” (for lack of a better term) which is located right next to the speaker and into which the hinge goes was broken, so the end of the left hinge is now free-floating, providing no help to the right hinge in supporting the screen, which is why it won’t stay up.
After I put my computer back together, I could tell that this was the case because even when assembled I can wiggle the left side of my screen around (up and down, mostly) because the hinge isn’t actually IN anything other than the metal speaker cover.
I’m writing both to warn other Toshiba laptop users having the same problem before they buy expensive new hinges which won’t actually solve their problem, and also to ask if anyone knows the part number for the piece I’m looking for, the “sleeve” into which the hinge goes on the speaker end of things.
I’ve done some looking around, and I think it just might be called the “(brake) hinge insulator”, but I’m having trouble finding a picture paired with that term so I can make sure. If I’m right, then this piece is significantly cheaper than ordering a new hinge, and may actually be what many posters actually need to fix their laptops.
If anyone can help me out with a part number for the piece I’m looking for that would be great. It seems to be welded to a larger, “L” shaped piece located just forward (towards the user) of the speaker, more or less under the edge of the keyboard. The only markings I could find was the number ” #1-1 ” imprinted on the piece. Thanks everyone, and good luck!
July 21st, 2007 at 6:51 pm
I had the same problem (well still do but I am repairing it) The hinge is actually all one peice. There is no replacing the “sleeve” sorry to say. the new hinges can be had for approximately $60 apeice. Go to toshiba’s webstie and click support and find out their authorized part supplier. It is National Part Depot and the yahve them for $60 plus shipping.
good luck!

I have a Toshiba A25-S2792 that needs new hinges. Do you have part numbers for this? Also do you know where i can find instructions for replacing them? Thank you for any help!
July 28th, 2007 at 2:39 pm
Lynette,
Left hinge: P000368300
Right hinge: P000378510
You can find new hinges here if you search by the part number.
July 28th, 2007 at 4:40 pm
Regarding my previous post – upon closer examination of the pictures of the brake hinge assembly, i see that the “sleeve” to which I referred, the piece that is broken on my laptop, is indeed a part of the whole hinge assembly. thanks for the help Todd!

OK, so I took my entire computer apart once again in search of a part number for my broken hinge, took the hinge completely out, turned it over several times, and found no part number anywhere. Does anyone know the part number for the left brake hinge for a Toshiba Satellite A15-s157? Where does one obtain such a part number other than on the part itself? And why wouldn’t the part number be somewhere on the part? Thanks for any help.

My Toshiba Satellite Notebook Model A40-221, Model No. PSA40E-08M7W-AR, Serial No. 14766057G has its LCD flopping backwards in certain positions but maintains an upright state in yet other positions. I am told that it is due to a broken hinge on the right when facing the screen. I would be grateful if you could assist in sourcing this hinge/hinges.

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1400 PS140C-03D07P. Can you tell me the part number for the hinge(s)? Are there 2 separate hinges or one?
Thanks,
Phil
September 12th, 2007 at 7:05 am
Now from what I hear, it’s only the right speaker hinge that holds it upright, correct? Meaning the only thing in the left speaker is a free “loose” hinge.

Thanks for your help.
Can someone help me in order to get or find a service manual in order to find the part number of the part or parts that i need to repair the hinge of a toshiba satellite 5205-s503?

I need help finding brake hinges for the following computer:
Toshiba Satellite A15-S157 PSA10U-01C8WV
Thanks,
Melissa
September 29th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
Melissa,
Your laptop model has a few different variations.
Take a look under the battery and a small letter “P” or “C” or “S” stamped on the case. Sometimes this letter is stamped somewhere on the bottom of the laptop but not under the battery. Anyways, to figure out part numbers for your hinges you’ll have to find this letter.
For cases with letter “P” or “C”
left hinge: P000392930
right hinge: P000392940
For cases with letter “S”
left hinge: P000377630
right hinge: P000377640

I have a Toshiba A45-S151 and like many people, the lid falls over easily. I notice the hinge parts sometimes are referred to as having a brake. Do both hinges have the brake. The brake seems to be what is wrong with mine. Do I need to order both?
Jim – VA
October 25th, 2007 at 7:14 pm
Jim,
You’ll have to remove the display bezel and take a closer look at both hinges. Probably you’ll have to replace both hinges.

I have a toshiba a15-s157 and after reading all the post, I did not find anybody with this model, I have the same hinges issue, my screen goes all the way back very loose. The letter on the back is the S, do you have the part number and a place to order them from?
Thanks
Edward
January 20th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Edward,
For a Toshiba Satellite a15-s157 laptop with 15″ LCD screen and letter “S” stamped on the base you can use the following hinges:
Left hinge: P000377630
Right hinge: P000377640
I think you can find hinges if you search on Google by the part number.
January 20th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Larry, Lefty Padilla,
For a laptop with 15 inches LCD screen you can use the following hinges/LCD brackets:
A000009360, A000009370, A000009380. Both brackets has the same part number and arrive together. You can use either part number, should be backward comparable.

You have a great web site thanks for all the help you are providing. I have read enough here to know that I need P000347850 BRAKE HINGE RIGHT and P000347860 BRAKE HINGE LEFT. I have seen the step by step directions with pictures on how to remove LCD. http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba1415/sat1415_LCD.htm I have also seen pictures of the hinges, there huge! How do I get those suckers in there. I guess I need step by step instructions on how to install them. I have a Toshiba Satellite 1415-S105.

You’ll find it on the same sticker with the serial number.

Hello, I have a Toshiba Satellite PSA40-702, model number – PSA40E-0E4N1-EN and both hinges seem to be cracked. Yesterday the left hinge cracked open completely and the screen will not stay up at all!
Do you know the hinge part numbers I would need please? Both left and right. Also need it from somewhere who would deliver to the UK.
Thank you!

A couple months ago my laptop (Toshiba 2455-S305 PS245U-075RSV) screen made snapping sound when I opened it. Now the LCD screen no longer stay up on its own. The right brake hinge must be completely broken since the assembly in that area has almost a 1/4″ of play in all directions. I found this item on ebay
Is it the item I’m looking for? Do you have a disassembly guide for replacing the hinge? Where is a good place to purchase discounted screen hinges if the aforementioned item isn’t the one that I am needing?
Thank you in advance

Anchorblew,
It’s really hard to tell without knowing the part number. The hinge looks OK but you’ll have to confirm the part number.
Here’s what you are looking for for Toshiba 2455-S305 (PS245U-075RSV):
Left hinge: P000368300
Right hinge: P000368310
I don’t have instructions for this particular model.

Thanks for the awesome website. Very informative!
I have the same problem with my Toshiba Satellite A40 (PSA40C-0F1LR). Both hinges are broken. I’ve looked around and am not sure of the part number so am afraid to buy the wrong thing. I’d really appreciate it if you could tell me the part numbers for both Left and Right hinges for my laptop. Many thanks!

Hello! It seems as if Toshiba has quite an issue with this.
I have a Satellite 4200 Series (4280Z-DVD/6.0) model number T5428U-0Q151 – any chance that the hinges for this bad boy are still available???
Thanks!

Dear Laptop Freak,
First of all,i think your website is awesome and very helpful. I was wondering if you could help me? I removed the battery and found “f4″.Would you be able to supply me with the part numbers for necessary hinges?
thank you

Laptop freak-
Love your website. I hope I am not repeating but I read through and could not see my answer. I have a Toshiba satellite m45-359 that has broken hinges I need a part number for. I have considered purchasing a m45 for parts but the only ones I can find are not S359’s would the parts be interchangeable? Thank you
July 7th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Thank you for this excellent site! Very helpful, and very much appreciated!! My question to you is: Do you know if the hinges for a Toshiba Satellite A15-s157 PSA10U-01C8WV are interchangeable? For example, would the hinges from an a15-s127 wotk on a Toshiba Satellite A15-s157 PSA10U-01C8WV? I had also herd that some tecra models, and some a10 models would also work for my Toshiba Satellite A15-s157 PSA10U-01C8WV but before I buy I wanted to ask you about interchangeabilty of these parts, since you are far more experienced and knowledgable with all these models..and, Thank you in advance (-:

I have a different problem with my hinges. They are actually stuck. I was no longer able to open my laptop, so I disassembled it. I was wondering if there was anything I can do to “unstick” the hinges?
Thank you,

I have a Satellite 1400 (without Wifi).
The hinges for this model are ONE piece each not two according to the supplier.
Part number are:
P000349060 - RIGHT SIDE $25 CDN
P000349070 - LEFT SIDE $25 CDN
In short, $50 Canadian to replace the two hinges.
Actually, if you live in Toronto, ON; you can buy the hinges directly from Toshiba’s part distributer (IBM, Toshiba, Dell, etc uses this company.)
CCSI – Their number is 416-502-3090 (I got their from Toshiba Canada );
They are way cheaper than online!

I am trying to find the left hinge ( or both ) for a Toshiba Satellite L35 series ( L35-S2194 ) I have tried to order them online and only got sent the right side. I am getting quite annoyed as you can imagine. Do you know where I can buy both hinges or the left. Website or company info is fine. I live in the US but will order outside of US if I have to. I have contacted every company I could find using the part number as my search and am not getting anywhere. I also called Toshiba a million times… Thanks a million if I can be helped!!

Michelle,
It depends on the LCD screen size in your laptop. Some laptops come with a 14.1″ LCD screen and some with 15.4″ screens. I’ll give you part numbers for display hinges for both screens.
I published the complete answer in the following post:
Display hinges for Toshiba Satellite L35 laptop.

Toshiba Satellite A25-S207 Laptops cluch in not holding up the screen. Screen falls down and will not stay up.
What parts do I need? Is it an easy fix?

Ellen,
You’ll need to replace both laptop hinges. It’s not an easy fix because it’s necessary to take apart the whole laptop.
If you have no experience fixing laptops, I wouldn’t do that.

My daughter’s Sony VGN-CR120 right hinge broke. I got the part and got the screen out. From what I found on the internet, it looks like I have to pry up the top plastic around the keyboard. Thats where I’m hesitating. I found a service manual for a VGN-C but the top plastic is a little different than this one.
Do you know if I really just pry the plastic top off carefully so I can get to the hinge screws?
Thanks in advance.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M60 (PSM60U-08J021) with a broken hinge. I found the replacement part at National Parts Depot for $10 plus shipping.
My question: To install the new hinge, do I really have to disassemble as much as the instructions linked below indicate? Those instructions are for an A45, but I haven’t found instructions for any other Satellite model.
Thanks for your great info.

I completed my hinge repair on Toshiba Satellite M60 ( PSM60U-08J021 ). I used the instructions linked below regarding base assembly, steps 1, 7, 8, 11, and 12. I also used the instructions linked below regarding the top/LCD assembly, steps 1 thru 5 and step 8.
I did the steps for the base first, then the steps for the top to take apart; and the same steps in reverse to put back together.
I did not disconnect any cables or wires.
I had a little difficulty with the wires near the hinges when putting back together. As you disassemble, really look and note the position of the wires in the area of the hinges under the half circle covers that are part of the keyboard securing strip. I also had some trouble with putting that keyboard securing strip back on, partly because of the wires, but also just because it seemed to need exact left-right positioning.

I have a Toshiba Tecra M2 S630 and was able to fix my left hinge by removing it and drilling out the rivet and replacing it with a 6-32×1/4 inch machine screw and a nut. Total cost was $4 for a package of nuts and screws from Radio Shack.

My Toshiba P205_S6287 was knocked off a table. It is working still however the 9″ plastic hinge attaching the top (lid) and bottom (base)broke on the left side. The wires that go through that part are being pinched as small area of solid pixels appear on the display until I move the lid to a different position. I can’t determine which parts I’d need to fix the problem assuming it’s repairable. I’m concerned about further damaging the display wires opening and closing the lid. The lid is, of course, unstable.
Parts suppliers are also unsure as one said I needed a LCD cover assembly but another thought I needed a base assembly.
There’s a good photo (7th one down)of the part that’s broken here:

Thanks for this site. Very helpful.

I have an “HP Pavilion” Laptop zv5000. I bought at Best Buy several years ago for my son. He has since moved on to a Mac.
I inherited the HP. The problem is that the screen will no longer stay up. I tried to remove the screws holding the hinges, but I cant get access to the actual hinge. I can see the problem, which is that the “potmetal” sleeve around the splined hinge has fatigued and cracked lenthwise.
How in the heck do I get to these to fix them? I am not a computer expert but I can handle a screwdriver and tools (I’m an ER physician).
Thanks for your help.
