Wireless card and bigger hard drive for Toshiba TE2100
I have a Toshiba TE2100 that I am content with except for two things: a) no internal 802.11g b) the small 20Gig hard drive.
Is there an 802.11b/g card that will fit and function in the TE2100?
Does anyone know what the largest hard drive the bios will support?
Toshiba Tecra TE2100 supports an internal 802.11b wireless card. Here are the original Toshiba part numbers for the internal wireless card: V000010820 or P000339520. The wireless card slot is located under the keyboard. Before you buy a new wireless card, I would recommend removing the laptop keyboard and checking if you actually have wireless antenna cables installed. Make sure that the laptop is running the latest version of BIOS; there have been an update for wireless support in version 1.40.
Toshiba TE2100 laptop supplied with 20GB, 30GB, 40GB and 60GB hard drives installed. I don’t think that you’ll see any problem when you upgrade the hard drive. I would say that you can use any newer laptop hard drive, including 80GB and 100GB. From my experience, if a laptop recognizes 20GB hard drive, it will recognize any bigger hard drive. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find any official information for upgrading hard drives in older notebooks.

The Hitachi 100GB went in without a problem. Took Ghost about 3 hours to copy the old 20 gig over, which I wasn’t expecting since it was only half full. There is a noticeable decrease in boot time from the old 20gig drive.
I did find out that the Toshiba’s USB ports don’t supply enough power to handle the bus powered enclosure. So I had to dig out a power supply. This has me questioning the health of this laptop’s power board, since the screen’s backlight occasionally (and becoming more frequently) starting to flicker randomly. But that might just be a loose connection. If not I still have 8 months left on the refurbished warrantee. I’m a little disappointed since I was hoping to divorce myself from the brick power supply on my other external drive. The enclosure works fine on my desktop so I can still use it between my desk top and work. I’ll just have to be connected to the wall if I want ot use it on the laptop, kind of defeats the purpose of a bus powered external drive.
As far as the wireless card upgrade I’m leaning towards the Netgate 5354. It may be a few weeks till I can order the card. This is under the assumption that the TE2100 is the business version of the Satellite Pro 6100.

All is well as far as the 802.11a/b/g card goes. The Netgate 5354 fit fine and is currently operating fine.
So now my poor little Tecra TE2100 sports a 100gig drive and 802.11a/b/g wireless.

Bingo – you hit the exact question I’m confronted with: change the video card !!!
I need to either buy a “new” laptop or replace the video card with either a NVIDIA GeForce (preferred) or ATI Mobility Radeon (secondary) product to make my Toshiba Satellite A25 S307 compatible with a Matrox TripleHead2Go external video device, see compatible video cards here.
Preference would be a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GTX (alternately GS) — 128m video memory.
Replacing the video card (and memory) is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a “new” laptop ($2-4k).
Is this possible and, if so, where can I get a compatible video card?

Bad news Fred,
Toshiba Satellite A25 has a video card integrated into the system board and you cannot upgrade it. Even if the video goes bad, you’ll have to replace entire system board. So, it’s time to buy a new laptop.

Figures — I have both the A25 S307 & A25 S207 (my wife’s) and have had to replace the brake hinges in both in just a little over 2 years …..
Since I’m going to have to get a “new” laptop, what’s the best bang for the buck — DirectX 9.0 (full support), Matrox TripleHead2Go (NO shared video memory), 2G memory, Core Duo (Core 2 Duo preferred), 17″ wide screen preferred, etc. Have a preference for Toshiba (hmmm …..) but am not picky ….. Something in line with my previous post for video.
Suggestions/recommendations?

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1410 laptop. The DVD-rom has died long time ago, I am currently using an external usb2.0 DVD drive for reading discs. The problem is: if I want to reinstall the Operating system using the recovery cds provided, I have to press F12 during system start-up, and select boot from DVD rom, now, the laptop does not seem to read the cds from the external drive, it still tries to read from its internal died DVD-rom. How do I make the laptop to boot from the external dvd-rom?
My second question is: my laptop is currently using a 20GB harddrive, I would like to upgrade it to 80GB, how do I find out if the laptop will accept 80GB capacity?

I don’t think that you’ll be able to boot this laptop from the external USB drive. The laptop BIOS wasn’t not designed to boot from an external USB DVD drive and the laptop just doesn’t know how to “talk” to the drive on startup. In order to reload the operating system you’ll have to find an internal DVD drive.
Usually if the laptop can recognize 20GB hard drive it will recognize a bigger drive too. Satellite 1410 laptops were sold with 20GB, 30GB and 40GB drives. You shouldn’t have any problem if you upgrade to 80GB hard drive.

I have a Compaq desktop with Celeron(R) D CPU 3.20GHz and 1.5G of RAM. Even when I’m not running a lot of programs, my CPU usage ranges from 85% – 100%, often freezing some programs and making me “end task.” When looking at the Performance tab in Task Manager, it’s usually:
CPU Usage: 85% – 100%
PF Usage: 659MB

According to the laptop specification (USA) there is only one video card available for this model. I think NVIDIA® GeForce 420 Go 16MB video card is the only option you have.

I have a Toshiba A15-S1292. A want to add internal wireless via the mini pci card. However, there are is a sticker saying that this laptop can’t support wireless functions and can’t be upgraded to wireless. This may be a stupid question, but is this true, can my laptop not be upgraded to wireless? I realize that I will have to add antennas behind the monitor.
Also, does anybody make a wireless mini pci card that has BOTH wireless and bluetooth built into it? Would I need a special antenna for the bluetooth? Thanks, John

If the sticker says that the laptop can’t support and can’t be UPGRADED to wireless, probably the motherboard doesn’t have the wireless card slot. There is no place to install the mini PCI card. I think you’ll have to go with a PCMCIA card.

Remove the wireless card cover from the bottom of the laptop, as it shown on the step 2. Check if you have the wireless card slot and antennas (white and black wires with small connectors on the end) installed. If you have the wireless slot and antennas installed, you can add an internal wireless card for your laptop. There are two internal Wi-Fi cards (802.11 a/g) listed for Satellite A65-S1062. Search on the internet by the following part numbers: V000041950 and V000041960. Install the card into the slot and connect wireless antennas: White to the main connector and black to the auxiliary connector. If the card is not recognized by the laptop, download and install the latest driver.

I have a Toshiba Satellite 2065CDS, It comes with a Standard 4 Gig Memory ,2 PC BusCard slots, 1 Usb, 3.5 floppy, 32 Ram, Maximun memory is 190 Mb , which I just bought; I I would like to upgrade the Hard drive and to add a wireless Card is it possible? and if so how big could I upgrade the HD internally?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1100. I have gone through countless mini cardsw for wireless. I’m jsut too abusive. Broke two of them off in the slot. I want to try an internal solution, but I’m technically illiterate. What do I need to purchase, and how to I install? I don’t see a place to put such an item, but I know others have done it successfully.

I can check specifications for Satellite 1410 notebooks sold in the United States. I hope it would be helpful to you.
So, according to specifications for Satellite 1410 notebook (USA):
1. Memory in this model is expendable to 512MB (Slot A + Slot B). You cannot remove one 128MB memory card and install 512MB instead. You should use 256MB module.
2. I found one wireless cards listed for this model. Here is a part number for this card: P000339520.
3. I didn’t find any DVD-RW drive listed for this model. Probably you can use DVD-RW drive from another Toshiba laptop, but I don’t know if there will be any computability issues.
4. I think you can call Toshiba and check if you can purchase original CDs from them.

I have a Toshiba Satellite m40 and I wish to upgrade my HDD from 40 gB to 160 gB. I am quite familiar with upgrading and repairing desktops but I have very limited info on laptops, as this is my first. I am unsure about compatibilities and know next to nothing about ATA 6 or ATA 7 drives.
Will I be able to follow your other advice about how to replace a hard drive on a notebook or will there be other considerations?

I’ve never installed a hard drive larger then 120GB and not sure if this one is going to work, probably it will. I would call the seller and ask them about the computability issues.
ATA-7 hard drives (133MBytes/sec) have a faster data transfer rate then ATA-6 hard drives (100MBytes/sec) . I believe if the notebook controller supports ATA-6 drives, you still can plug an ATA-7 drive but it will run at ATA-6 speed.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M40-JM800E. Right now it is using the Intel Integrated Chipset video card 128mb. This totally sucks for a game i want to play (CS:S) and I want to know if it is possible to upgrade the video card (maybe through the PCI-E slot?)so that i have a dedicated video card. I was thinking of the GeForce Go series. Any information would be very appreciated!

Hi guys Was just looking to see what was up about the te2100 video which CAN be removed from the mainboard, but to my excosted search, cannot find a better card to install (nor can I find many around to replace the one thats broke LOL!) anyway about the wireless questions, from what I’ve found in my workings with laptops (all models) If it has a wireless slot, it really dosen’t matter what card you use. some things are standard connections and as for the wires, if not there, you can always find a set on ebay,(again dosen’t matter the connections to the card are standard as well) just have to be brave when you take your laptop apart. to install them, I find if you run the wires threw the hinges, you can tape the ends beside or behind the lcd screen Just FYI Harry

I believe in a Toshiba A35 notebook the hard drive is located under the DVD drive. Remove the DVD drive first (one screw on the bottom) and you’ll see the hard drive.
I think the HDD size shouldn’t be an issue and you can install 60GB, 80GB, 100GB or 120GB hard drive into this unit.
The hard drive is located deep inside the laptop, so I would go with 5400RPM. I think 7200RPM hard drive might get hot, not sure.

I have a 3 year A75-209 laptop and the internal wireless card will not work. I have the side switch on and have reinstalled the atheros wireless card driver from the CD and nothing. The light is on but the Wireless connection icon on the systems tray is “X”ed out. Any ideas? There has to be a way I can return the wireless settings to its original state.

We have a Toshiba Qosmio F25 laptop, which we opened up and installed a new DC-IN harness. (It broke when our daughter dropped the laptop.) As we were closing the case, the LCD fell forward. Bottom line, the black wireless antenna wire broke off from its connector. We tried to solder the wire back onto the connector, but too much solder got into the connector, so the connector is unusable. I’ve been trying to see if the entire antenna can be replaced, but haven’t found anything online. Any suggestions?

Try using the wireless connection just with one antenna cable (white), it still should work fine. White antenna cable is the main one, the black cable is auxiliary.

I have a Toshiba A105-S2091 laptop. I just upgraded the BIOS to the latest version available from their website and I bought a 250 GB SATA Western Digital internal HD.
After I installed WIndows XP and rebooted, the HD reads 127 GB (with 125 GB available). What’s going on here? Is there another BIOS I must install or am I S.O.L. here?

Did you install XP from the Toshiba recovery disc or you use generic XP disc?
Make sure you have the latest service pack installed. I believe XP without SP1 or SP2 has limited support for large hard drives and cannot handle partitions larger then 127GB.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35-s456. The hard drive crashed and I installed a new hard drive, when I try to run the system recovery cd I get a message that says “wrong system” I can see the hard drive and DVD reader in the BIOS setup utility and the boot from DVD is the first item in the list. Do you have any suggestions?

TE2100 doesnt really need the recovery disks. You should have the window license sticker with you key on the under side of the lappy. Just grab any of your friends windows Cd and throw it in. Use your key on the laptop. Then.. go the toshiba support (www) and download all the drivers and software for your laptop. note: quite a few files to install.
Or just do what I did.. new 80GB Samsung HD and then install ubuntu 8.04 although getting Nvidia GFX enabled and running is not for the technically deficient.

Just installed an Atheros AR5005GS Mini PCI Card. Working Perfectly !!
Specs – 802.11b/g
Just google to find out how to remove keyboard and install the mini pci card. I’ve read on a few sites that it pays to check that you have the wireless antenna cables installed. I found mine neatly taped away below the security cover. Easy to miss!!! Just look for the black and white cables coming out from the monitor. White cable is the main antenna / Black is the AUX. Happy WIFI’ing

hello, i have just purchased a dell studio 1535 laptop. here are my questions:
1. sim socket is below the battery, i put a sim there, but its not detected by my vista os. what to do ?
2. dell support said i need a wwan card. whats that ?
where i get it in india ? how much will it cost ?
3. do dell provide the wwan card or i have to buy it from MSPs like airtel, vodafone in our country ?

I have a HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop and want to upgrade to a larger hard drive and the largest memory sticks I can put in it. Could you please tell me if there are 500GB hard drives for my laptop and what is the max memory I can put in it? Also, my laptop keyboard is acting a bit strange. When I type some of letters do not show up on the screen and I have to go back and retype them, what would cause this and can it be fixed?

have a toshiba satellite p200d series recently just started shutting off by itself…was told before when did this to ise recovery disc and start again, now its beeen a yr and doing same thing but when i try to load disc and hold down c just keeps turning off and never loading, can i do something when it is on or push another key perhaps and what is the disc 2 for can that maybe fix dont know what other info you may need but ty
