My Acer Aspire 1670 laptop start normally but after login to windows it freezes

I have an Acer Aspire 1670, when I switch it on every thing start normally but after login to windows it freezes and I noticed very high fervent from fanning hall , I thing the CPU P4 3.2Gh/1G is faulty please tell me if I can change CPU (same kind)?

I don’t think that the laptop freezes because of a faulty CPU. It easily might be just an overheating problem. Can you hear if the fan is spinning after you turn on the laptop? Can you check if the heatsink is clogged? I would try to clean the heat sink first and see if it makes any difference. It is also possible that the laptop freezes because of a faulty hard drive. Test the hard drive, you can download Hitachi drive fitness test, it’s free and works with most hard drives. I’ve never seen that a faulty CPU causes the problem like yours.

My girlfriend’s aspire laptop works fine except for this problem:

if it is turned on and the laptop is moved in any way (for example, if something bumps the table it is on, no mtter how slightly) then the computer screen will go black and the machine will not respond until you remove and replace both the power cable and battery.

if the laptop is off and you move it then turn it on, it will boot until it gets to the first windows xp screen – then the screen will shows the windows logo on a split screen (top and bottom) then the screen will go black with 2 vertical lines on the right side.

the only way to get out of this is to remove and replacethe power cable and battery

I think that your problem might be related to the laptop video module. Start the laptop with an external monitor and check if the same problem (shows the windows logo on a split screen then the screen will go black with 2 vertical lines) will appear on the external video. If the bad video output appears on both screens, internal laptop display and external monitor, then most likely there is an issue with the video card. I’ve never worked with Acer laptops and don’t know if your laptop has a separate video card or if it’s integrated into the motherboard. If the video card is a separate module, try to reseat the card, make sure it’s making a good contact with the motherboard.
If the external video is fine and the bad video output appears only on the laptop display, you might have a loose video cable. I would check if the video cable is seated properly on both ends (connection on the motherboard and on the LCD screen).

I have a travel mate ACER laptop. It began 2 months ago, where I started up my laptop, but only a blank screen appeared. I would turn it off and restart, but still blank, until I tapped the lower area of the computer, then the screen would start up again. But only a minute in, would the svcreen freeze again, and the blank screen problem occurs again. I finally got the laptop in to the poi nt of use, then an hour later, the machine would restart and the blank screen is back. I need help, I just had to re-instal all software becasue, by some instant, my XP files got nuked when I restarted. I need advise and help since ACER’s service sucks, I have been trying for the past week and nobody answers the phone.

Good Day: This fall we purchased an ACER Aspire 3618 Laptop computer. It runs on XP

My wife uses it mainly for her school work, using word Perfect.

It came loaded with WordPerfect Office X3 but we also loaded WordPerfect 10 on the machine as my wife prefers the layout of that package.

Our problem is that the laptop freezes or locks quite often and randomly. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason for it. When we try the CTRL/ALT/DELETE routine it will tell us what process is not running but will not end it, when we tell it to. The only recourse is a hard reboot.

I have contacted Acer who gave me some options to check out. Most of which would be something to consider if the machine is older, not just a couple months. Anyway I have checked these things out such as bad sectors, viruses, is there enough memory (512 RAM and a 60 GB harddrive). They supposedly are not aware of any “freezing or lockup issues” with their laptop computers. a simple “Google search” would open their eyes to that.

However one of the things we were wondering was is it possible that the two WordPerfect packages are in conflict with each other and causing the freeze up. Although it freezes just as often when neither package is running.

Do you have anyother ideas? It is very frustrating for my wife to have to reboot and then have to redo work because it may not have been saved, depending how far into the work she has gotten. Not to mention the waste of time.

Thank you so much for your help

    Rene

I don’t think that there is a conflict between these two packages. As you said, the notebook freezes up even when WordPerfect is not running.
Just in case download Memtest86+ utility and test the notebook memory, it’s possible you have a failing RAM module. It also could be a software related problem. Try reinstalling the operating system.

I also have a similar problem with an Acer 5000. At first thought, I attribute the problem of my notebook freezing up to bad software since it worked fine with Safe Mode. However, after rebooting several times and uninstalling things, my Acer won’t even get to the BIOS.

Would this likely be due to a motherboard failure?

My new Fujitsu notebook locks up, screen goes black, scroll lock LED light blinks and FAN OPERATES LOUDLY. It seems to happen when I come out of Hybernate or Sleep. When I lift open the screen it starts.

THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO STOP IS BY TAKING OUT THE BATTERY AND REINSERTING IT.

This started only a month after i purchased it. It happened about 7 times now in 6 months. Fujitsu thinks it’s a connection issue.

    Lorraine,
Find out if Fujitsu issued a newer version of BIOS for your notebook. Try updating the BIOS if needed.

I have an Acer TravelMate 2420, and last night all of a sudden it shut off, and now when I turn it on the Acer screen loads up, but then the screen turns black. It sounds like it is loading properly, but there is just a black screen. I have had problems with this laptop randomly turning off (I think due to overheating), but it has never done this before. I really hate this laptop, but I desperatly need to salvage all of my files from this computer. Can anyone help?

    1. As soon you boot the machine and login, go to the eManager and turn on the fan. (IMP) You might have to do it everytime. Dont worry, the fans will make the sound like that of a jet engine.
    2. Get your laptop fans and coils cleaned atleast once in two years. This is really a downside of the model.
    3. Original battery does not have good battery life either.
    4. Upgrade your ram to 2 GB. Any DDR or DDR1 ram with 200 pin 2700 | 333MHz would do. Try to find the cheapest possible. That would be around £20 for 1GB.

When your acer laptop only works with charger and not with the batter then the battery is dead. You have to buy a new battery to make it work. I hade the same problem with my acer. I bought a new battery and now it works wthout freezing. But still I cant used the charger when the battery is empty then my laptop freeze again. I think the charger overheats the cpu when battery is empty.

I had a problem with an acer laptop of overheating and freezing on close down. Also with the lid closed on standby the screen would go blank and the battery would have to be pulled to restart the computer. After checking everything from it being a virus to loose connections I eventually found it to be a dirty fan. Though it was only on the tips of the fan, it really made a difference. The inlet to the fan was far too small and also when the battery expired and was left in it generated more heat. The final solution to solve my problem was a good fan cooling mat I had to plug into the usb, this solved everything. I since got a new Toshiba laptop with no problems of this.
