My Toshiba TE2100 laptop needs a HDD password

When I turn my laptop on it gets to the bios and then asks for a HDD built-in password. I don’t know the password and need the information on my hard disk. I have a te2100 laptop and Toshiba hard disk. I don’t really know much about computers so would be a lot of help if you knew how to help me.

If you set the hard drive password yourself and forgot it, you out of luck. I don’t know if you would be able to recover it. If you find any utility for removing a hard drive password and it works for you, please let me know. After a quick search on Google I found a utility called A-FF Repair Station. They support a lot of drives and license for 1 recovery will cost you about $50. I have never tried this software myself.
If you didn’t set the hard drive password and the laptop still asking for it on start up, then I have a suggestion. Check the version of BIOS installed on your laptop. At this time the latest version is 1.60. I found that version 1.50 has a fix and it says: “Prevented the message asking for HDD password when there is a problem with the HDD”. In other words, if there is a problem with your hard drive, the laptop might ask you about the hard drive password even if you didn’t set it up. Go to Toshiba tech support website, update the BIOS on your laptop and see if you can bypass the HDD password message.
According to the BIOS fix in v.1.50, the HDD password message might indicate that you have a bad hard drive. If after the BIOS update you can bypass the hard drive password message and access the data, I would recommend back it up as soon as possible.

When you turn on the laptop, a red Toshiba sigh appears on the screen for a few seconds. Under this sing, on the bottom, find a key witch you have to press to access the setup. I do not remember with key it is. You can try Esc, F1 or F2, it’ll not hurt to your laptop. When you are inside the setup menu, you should see the BIOS version. I believe it would be on the top right corner of the screen. Try it.

How can I update the bios on my Satellite A105 when I can’t get past the HDD user password prompt?

    MLHellums,
You should be able to update the BIOS on your laptop with a USB floppy drive. Before you start, you have to create a BIOS update diskette. Find a working computer and download the most recent BIOS from Toshiba website. When you click on the file, select the disk installation option and write it to a floppy disk. After that connect the floppy drive with the BIOS update diskette to the laptop, turn it on and press on F12 to select the boot device (select external USB drive). If the HDD password screen appears before you can select a boot device, remove the hard drive from the laptop and try again. The laptop should boot from the floppy disk and just follow the wizard to finish it up. On some models the BIOS update process starts automatically as soon as you boot the laptop from the floppy disk.
Another option is create a boot CD-ROM. Download the same BIOS update but when you click on it select to create a CD disk. After the CD is created, press F12 on start up and select to boot from the CD.

I have a HP OMNIBOOK 6000 and the other day I tried to boot it up and the screen just went blank. The hard drive light came on for about two seconds and then it went off and the screen is still blank. I tried to get into the bios but it is password protected and I do not have the password. Is there a way to get around the password and what can I do about the hard drive problem?

Hiya, I have a really strange issue with my Dell Inspiron 1150. When booting up I get a cannot find hard drive message, however if I leave it for a few minutes I can boot up with no problems…
I thought it could be a loose connection but I am doing nothing different when I can boot up…
    Thanks in advance :)

    Hi.
My partner has an Acer Aspire 2001WLCi laptop.
She was using it when it died, and then turned it back on. A black screen with a white curser came up in he left hand corner.
She tried to restore using the discs, but it got so far and stopped. Tried a reformat using XP pro which got so far and a box came up saying that C drive was corrupt, cannot complete setup.
For the last three or four days beforehand it has been really slow. Every time it has been turned on for the last two days it has tried to do a scan disc, which took over three hours to complete.
She defragged it last night which took over eight hours, and when it did finish it said that some files could not be moved.
Could you please advise on what could have caused this, and if we replaced the hard drive would it be ok, or risk being corrupted again?
    Regards.Doug.

    Doug,
I think you have a problem with the hard drive. You can download and run Hitachi’s Drive Fitness test utility to test the hard drive. If it fails to pass, replace the hard drive.

    Toshiba HDD Password Fix:

First thing you should do is go to Toshiba’s website and download the latest bios for your model. Tehn you need to remove the HD after removing the HD and before installing a new drive you should run the Bios Update if you burn the update as a bootable disc the notebook will start the update as soon as you restart the computer. Once the update has completed it should have cleared any existing password in the bios although the HDD password is still on the drive and your pretty much out of luck there, but if you install a new drive after updating the bios you should be fine.. If you ever put the old drive back in it will write the password back into the bios and you will be screwed all over again

    hope this helps
