Mr. Jackson ,

I have this problem too. I have short the jumpers for the BIOS password. But, my problem is the HDD/SSD1 password.

I have updated the bios, but i have not yet put my HDD back in yet. Are you saying if I put the drive back in, it will be the same all over again? I still want to try to plug it in and see what happens.

If so, can I update the bios again and try to re do everything with another drive?

Toshiba HDD Password Fix:

First thing you should do is go to Toshiba's website and download the latest bios for your model. Tehn you need to remove the HD after removing the HD and before installing a new drive you should run the Bios Update if you burn the update as a bootable disc the notebook will start the update as soon as you restart the computer. Once the update has completed it should have cleared any existing password in the bios although the HDD password is still on the drive and your pretty much out of luck there, but if you install a new drive after updating the bios you should be fine.. If you ever put the old drive back in it will write the password back into the bios and you will be screwed all over again

hope this helps

Doug,
I think you have a problem with the hard drive. You can download and run Hitachi’s Drive Fitness test utility to test the hard drive. If it fails to pass, replace the hard drive.

Hi.
My partner has an Acer Aspire 2001WLCi laptop.
She was using it when it died, and then turned it back on. A black screen with a white curser came up in he left hand corner.
She tried to restore using the discs, but it got so far and stopped. Tried a reformat using XP pro which got so far and a box came up saying that C drive was corrupt, cannot complete setup.
For the last three or four days beforehand it has been really slow. Every time it has been turned on for the last two days it has tried to do a scan disc, which took over three hours to complete.
She defragged it last night which took over eight hours, and when it did finish it said that some files could not be moved.
Could you please advise on what could have caused this, and if we replaced the hard drive would it be ok, or risk being corrupted again?
Regards.Doug.

Hiya, I have a really strange issue with my Dell Inspiron 1150. When booting up I get a cannot find hard drive message, however if I leave it for a few minutes I can boot up with no problems...
I thought it could be a loose connection but I am doing nothing different when I can boot up...
Thanks in advance :)
