How far do I have to disassemble the laptop to replace broken hinges?
I have a Toshiba Satellite M35-S320 with broken hinges.
How far do I have to disassemble the laptop and where can I find the parts I need?
Replacing broken laptop hinges takes a lot of time because you have to take apart two major parts – the laptop case and the display assembly. For removing the top cover assembly you can follow these instructions. To open up the display assembly, check out guides for other models on www.irisvista.com. If you decide to open the laptop, be very careful and document each step you make so you have no trouble assembling it back. If you are not confident, do not open the laptop or you can damage it permanently.
You can find new hinges if you search on Google using the part number.

I have the same problem with my toshiba, but I can’t find new hinges online, I’ve only found used. The problem with them (I ordered one)is that the rivet that broke on the old hinge is already a little loose on the used replacement hinge. So, I’d do all this work, and then probably have to repeat it before too long. Any ideas on how to get a new part?
Thanks so much for your help!!

Noramara,
Give me more information (model-part number from the label on the bottom) about your laptop and I’ll try to find a part number for your hinges.

Hi I have a Toshiba satellite M30-304 and my right hinge has gone. Like the last mailer I may need the other one replacing too. DO you know what part numbers I would need, where I can get them and where I can see instructions on how to fit them?
Thanks very much!

I have an old Toshiba Portege 3000. I love the size and want to keep it, so to try to breathe a little new life into it I am going to try to switch OS to Linux, but I also want to make it into a Mobile Data Terminal of sorts, and part of that is I would like to separate the screen from the base and run a cable between them. I now suspect that most if not all the info on how to split the screen portion off can be found here, but now I need to know your thoughts on the actual cabling of the two components – issues such as signal interference and if this has already been done so I might learn from someone else’s experience…

Please email kevflynn@alltel.net if you have any info.
I have a 5205-s705 which is compatible with many other units parts wise. Is there anyone who could a)provide the left and right hinge Part #s and b)possibly direct me to a vendor that can sell them to me. I’d buy used but NOTHING on ebay for my specific model or an s703,etc. (An index showing what models use my same hinge part would be very useful too because I can search all of them and more likely get hits.)
Thanks in advance!!

……..after some surfing I see your link to the do it yourself hinge repair for the Satellite M45….its very complete. I think I’m going to try crazy glue and see how that works!!! I can live with the screen hanging on for dear life for now.
Thanks

I have a toshiba Satellite A85. My right hinge broke some time ago and recently the left went also. I tried to fix it but a few screws just wouldn’t turn not matter how hard I tried! Well, I was able to put the computer back together alright. Now I have to have the monitor lean on something.

LaptopFreak: Where do you get the part numbers for the hinges? I have a Satellite 2405 with the same problem, the laptop screen will just fall backwards unless I balance it just right.

Hey,
I have a 2405-s201: During booting it gives an IDE #1 error – with no ability to view the cd rom/ dvd. By this I figure either its broken or not connected.
So, do you have a disassembe guide for this model, and a part number for the drive?
Thanks a bunch

In disassembling my M35X Toshiba laptop, the screw holding the cover for the wireless card is not a phillips head. Looks like it could be a torx, but if so, it is smaller than std size torx bits. Can you advise what I need to remove this one screw ?
Note: this unit does not have a wireless card, but does have the cover.
Thanks.

Of course I discovered it was a small allen head as soon as I sent the query a few minutes ago.
Keep up the good work.

Hi, all.
I have an HP Compaq NC6000, and the right hinge has broken. The break is across where the screw (for the hinge cover) goes in, and it happened because the hinge ceased up and no longer turns at all. It’s now at a 90 degree angle to what it should be, and needs replacing.
I’ve ordered the parts, and think I can do it on my own…but there are some things I’m a little nervous about approaching.
1. How do I get the lower part of the hinge that goes UNDER the screw out?
2. Does anyone know a guide to help me disassemble the front LCD bezel for this laptop? I’ve googled for hours, and can’t seem to pull up anything useful.
Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

Well isn’t this forum on broken hinges for Toshiba the pits. I have a Toshiba Satellite A15 and I had the left one break last fall and yesterday the right one broke. I am not a repair person but I am looking at making a cradle to hold it. Its almost 5 years old so I guess its time for another one but I have been holding off because I don’t want Vista.

cohee25401,
It’s possible to replace broken hinges yourself, but it’s not easy. You’ll have to take the whole thing apart and new hinges are not cheap. Apparently, it’s time to start saving money for a new laptop.

My hinge just broke and I found that Toshiba had a hinge remediation program that unfortunately ended in March ‘08.

My NC6000 laptop right hinge just broke also. Any luck fixing that? (this is the the person above with the compaq HP NC6000 laptop) I see hinges on ebay but don’t know where or who can fix it; if it’s easy I can fix it myself! I have been googling it and this page came up.

Hi there,
I have a satellite a85 s107 and I need to replace the LCD hinges on my computer. The screen currently is propped up against a pile of books and any help I can get about the following will be highly appreciated.
1. I am having trouble in finding the exact part numbers for these hinges.
2. Can I use the hinges from any of the other 15″ Toshiba models? M35X M30X for example is a 15″ satellite.
thanks much
