I need to repair or replace power jack on Toshiba Satellite 5105-S701 model. Do I need to solder or not on this laptop?
Quick question. I need to repair or replace power jack on Toshiba Satellite 5105-S701 model. Worried it might need soldering to remove and replace but have seen two on eBay that had wired tails that look like they plug into motherboard instead. Do I need to solder or not on this laptop? Thank you for your incredible websites and picture guides. I used one recently to replace a relative’s screen. Thanks again.
You don’t have to solder the power jack on this model. The power jack is located on a separate DC-IN harness. To replace the power jack harness you will have to open the laptop case, unplug the defective DC-IN harness and install a new one. You can find a new power jack harness on Google by the part number P000341880. I just did a quick search and found it for $12. Looks like a cheap repair.
You can use Toshiba Satellite 5105 video card replacement guide to open up the laptop. The power jack harness is pictured on the step 16. It’s a thick black cable right in the middle that taped to the cooling fan.

I have an Hp Pavilion zv5000, my dc jack is loose and i ordered a new one from ebay. Im familiar with soldering but some step by step instructions for actually getting to the dc jack by removing the motherboard would be good. Can someone tell me where to find instructions for doing this please? ive been googling it all day and still cant find anything

I have an ASUS M3000Np Notebook PC and the DC power source broke (I believe). I ordered some spares. I can’t figure out how to get to the power DC-IN harness. Also, if I get there will I need to solder it?

I have been dealing with laptops and the dc jack issues for a bit now and it seems to be my main staple of business lately. The jacks can break inside the jack housing or even crack from the motherboard which sometimes can be very hard to see. the harness versions are easy to change out but the sodlering ones should be done by someone who has the right tools. a good desoldering tool and a steady hand. http://www.aydgeek.com check us out. I can help by me doing it or even help you find the right parts thru email.

Well I broke down and ordered one. It works for sure. In fact it came with three units. I gave the RJ45 to my wife cause her stupid MagSafe connector is always just falling off. Solved two problems for us.

“Only if you are willing to sacrifice RJ45, RJ11 or one of the USB ports.”
I don’t understand? I have never used my RJ11 port for anything. Why wouldn’t that be a good point for strain relief? It’s about 6″ from my crappy power connector.

Do you guys have any experience with the jerk stopper cable retention kit? I’m thinking this might be a good way to make sure I don’t have power pin problems.

Hi
I have an Compaq nx9005 that only works from the battery and not directly from the AC adaptor. The charging circuit works OK but when I remove the battery the laptop dies.
The AC adaptor is know to be good.
Is this a knowm Problem?
Is there a fix??
Thanks
