My Toshiba Satellite S269 laptop goes into hibernation whenever I touch the mousepad.

This happens after rebooting as well.

john whitehouse,

Every time i try to turn on or off my laptops sound using the hotkey it locks up instantly for a while i thought it was getting hot not even realizing that i had hit the button to trigger it i have had no issue since i stopped using that button however i cannot figure if this would be defective hardware or a driver issue
Just in case make sure the laptop has the latest BIOS version installed, updated the BIOS if needed.
To me that sounds like a hardware related problem. I just looked at the laptop service manual but it's not clear if both volume control buttons are located on a separate board or on the motherboard. If both buttons are located on a separate board, it's possible that this board is not working properly.
Did you try reimaging the hard drive back to factory defaults?

Laptop,

My Toshiba will not let me change the power settings. My desktop lets me set it so that the screen saver comes on in 20 minutes, but that the display will never shutdown, stand by or hibernate, so that I can download large files from the web at night.

My Laptop refuses to let me change any of these settings, except It says to change them I need to go into Toshiba Power Saver, and then do it there, but that still won't give me an option. Can you help?

tjayphe,
I'm not sure what is causing the first issue, but I think I can help with hinges. Tighten two screws shown on the step 10 in this guide, it might help.

Laptop Freak

My Toshiba P35-S6292 has an issue with locking up after closing the lid, regardless of the power source (it doesn't "freeze" because of the battery or something like that). Classically when I closed the lid, the power saver comes on (shuts the LCD off) and the computer disconnects from the internet. More and more often now when I open the lid back up, the display is not reset, when before a touch to the keypad or external mouse would bring up the display just as it was when the lid was closed, and after the network (modem, wireless router, etc.) re-established itself, the internet was accessible again (probably 20 seconds, maybe). What would cause the display to not come back on after the lid has been closed?

Also, the hinges are getting loose, and I know there is a category dedicated to that, but I couldn't find any specific info on whether the hinges can be tightened and how to tighten them, but only a small bit where tightening hinges was alluded to. Any help would be AWESOME!!!

Andy,
I doubt that this problem is somehow related to the battery. Make sure the laptop has the latest version of BIOS installed, update it if needed.
