How I know if my laptop already equipped with wireless?
I have a Toshiba Satellite 1415 Series notebook and I wanted to know how I know if it’s already equipped with wireless. My owner’s manual isn’t much help to me…. so any suggestions?
First of all, start the laptop and to turn on the wireless switch. On Toshiba Satellite 1415 it’s located on the right side, under the floppy drive. If the LED close to the switch lights, then you have wireless card installed.
If you think that your laptop has a wireless card, you also can check it in the device manager. To access the device manager follow the path: Start – Control panel – System – Hardware – Device Manager. In there find a network adapters line. If you have a wireless card installed, it should be listed.
The easiest way to check if the laptop is already equipped with wireless antennas, is to remove the wireless card cover on the bottom of the laptop. The wireless card slot is located close to the memory slots. If the laptop is wireless ready, then you should see 2 wires (black and white) located under the cover (left top corner on the step 5). These wires are wireless card antennas; the white wire connects to a main connecter and the black on to an auxiliary connector. If you don’t have a wireless card installed, then you can buy it if you search by the part number. Toshiba part number for your model would be P000339520. I just searched here and found this wireless card for $60.

Hi , I have Compaq M2208TU LapTop which i bought quite a long time ago. As per the spec(http://www.laptopbuy.com/compaq.htm) i should be having Wireless connectivity, but i never tried / nor used it /nor installed its driver.
If i press the wireless connectivity switch – nothing happens – no light glows from it !
Do you think its a hardware problem ?
Can some one please shed some info on this .
Thanks in Advance,
Sam.

Desmond,
Check the Toshiba website again and see if you can find a driver for Intel PRO/Wireless 2200B/G card, I think that’s what you need.

Hi, I have a Compaq Presario M2000 series from the upper right corner of screen. Number from bottom says it is 2108us.
I replaced the power connector board and in the process one of the little metal crimpers attached to the end of the wireless antenna wires came off.
I bought new wires for the M2000 series but have no clue how to install.
Anyone know how to take apart the screen to get to these wires to replace them or maybe a website that
can give me instructions???
I already have screen/cover/lid detached from bottom half of computer, I just don’t know how to take the screen apart, get to the wires and replace them.
Can this be done??

Hi
I have a Compaq Presario M2000 with built in Wirless. I have a Linksys router. My laptop shows that the signal strength is excellent but it says limited or not connectivity. I have clicked repair and it starts to repair but comes back and says unable to repair as unable to renew IP address.
Can someone help? I am not technically minded

Rubel,
Look at this system components layout. Dell Inspiron 1100 is similar to Inspiron 5100 and 5150 but it doesn’t have a mini PCI card (internal wireless card). I’m not sure if your laptop has a wireless card slot and antennas installed. Probably a PCMCIA Wi-FI card is the only choice you have.

Beto,
Isn’t a wireless card witch is always connected as a cell phone and doesn’t require the wireless router? I’ve never had one like that and cannot help you to setup the security settings. I think you can get support from Verizon.
You can get a signal off any wireless card.

Hey me again,
Just fixed my laptop and got a new hard driver 120 gb internal and 200 gb external..and i got the verizon wireless broadband card for my dell inspiron 5150. I want to buy a hub? a cooler my co worker said to keep it cool. and he also said my card is not secure that anyone can get a signal off it. I want to secure my connection if possible. Hi. I have a Dell Latitude D610 Laptop setup with dual-boot XP & 2003 Server. With the XP the built-in wireless device works fine, no prolems at all.
I cannot get the 2003 server to recognize the wireless device. I have also tried installing two different adapters, but failed finding a driver that works. I read all the security rational – but this laptop is for demonstration purposes while traveling and it just gives me a hard time. I have another laptop with 2000 server and no issues there. ANY SOLUTION that will bring me to a point where my 2003 server works wireless will be very appreciated. Thanks.

how do I turn on the wireless switch on my toshiba satallite A105-s4064

Nikki,
I think this model will not support internal wireless card. I just went through the list of spare parts for this model and didn’t find any wireless card or wireless antenna listed. I think the only option you have is an external PCMCIA wireless card. You plug this card into an empty PC slot on your laptop. The PC slot is located on the side of the laptop.

Jan Marcel,
. Unfortunately I cannot find out if this motherboard comes with the wireless slot or not, Toshiba doesn’t provide any detailed description for their motherboards. Try searching on Google-images by the part number and if you are lucky you’ll find a picture of the board.
It looks like the same motherboard to me

Miguel,
Even though the laptop has the wireless switch it’s not necessary that there is a wireless card inside. The laptop might be just “Wireless Ready” and has wireless antennas and switch installed but no wireless card itself.
When you switch it on, can you see an LED turning on? Usually the LED located close to the switch. If the wireless LED comes on, then the wireless card is already installed and you just have to connect it to the access point.
Here’s how you can check if the wireless card is actually installed. There is a wireless/RAM cover located on the bottom of the laptop, right in the center. If you remove two screws, you can remove the cover. If the wireless card is installed, you’ll see it right away. It’s a credit card size card with two wires (black and white) connected to it. Here’s how the wireless card looks like. You’ll find it on the step 3 of this disassembly guide.

Kerri,
I searched for this laptop on the website you mentioned and I found it. According to the listed features this laptop includes Wireless LAN 802.11g/b/a with up to 54 MBit/s. This laptop is wireless ready and all you have to do it connect it to the wireless access point.

Phil Miller,
Here’s what I did just two days ago. I got an old Dell Latitude C840 notebook. This laptop was “wireless ready” but didn’t have any wireless card installed. I installed the first card I was able to find in my desk, it happened to be an Intel wireless card (Model: WM3B2200BG), loaded a generic Intel driver (device driver 10.5.1.68) with Intel software and so far it works like a charm. I’m connected to the internet wirelessly via stable 54MBps connection.
For some reason my Dell Latitude had only one wireless antenna cable (most Toshiba laptops have two antenna cables: Main and Aux). I connected the single cable to the main connector on the card and haven’t seen any problems since then.
I’m not sure 100% that this card will work for you, but I think it will. You can find the card if you search by the model number WM3B2200BG or you can try searching by Toshiba part number V000053990. I have the same Wi-Fi card installed in my Satellite A105 laptop, that’s where I found the part number for the card.
The cheapest card I found here (search by model or part number) just for $15. Definitely worth trying.

I have a Satellite 5105-S702 and would like to upgrade the wifi from B to G. Is there a replacement card that would work?
November 15th, 2006 at 12:12 pm
Thank you very much!! The dang computer help section said to turn on the switch but didn’t say where it was, or even if it was a physical switch, and I was too unaware to find it, so thank you so much for including that simple instruction on where the wireless switch is, that the computer company neglected.

Larry,
I don’t know the part number for this connector and I doubt that you can find it unless you use a substitute part or pull it from another motherboard.
For those of you don’t know how to take it apart, here are instructions for disassembling Toshiba Satellite A10/A15 notebook (www.irisvista.com).
Do you have any experience with soldering? If not, then I would probably find a technician who can help you to solder the fan wires directly to the motherboard. It shouldn’t be very difficult and it will help you to get the laptop up and running again. I think that’s the easiest way to work around the broken fan connector.
I haven’t tried it myself but I think it’s possible.

I need to replace the cooling fan power connector on the motherboard of a Toshiba A15-S127 laptop. If you could help me with (1) the appropriate part number and (2) the procedure on how to replace this component, I would greatly appreciate it.
I was too rough when I yanked off the fan by the power cable.
Thanks.
