Sound, wireless connection and modem on my Toshiba Tecra 9100 notebook failed an the same time
I needed some help on my Toshiba Tecra 9100 notebook. I have three issues that may be related:
1. Sound card is not detected by laptop
2. Wi-Fi card not detected by laptop
3. Modem is listed but not usable - laptop reports that it is used by another software
I have used the rescue CDs that came with the computer to restore the laptop to new condition and I even downloaded the latest drivers for audio from the Toshiba support website. The driver did not install.
I installed a BIOS update months before these problems happened. And these three problems happened at almost the same time
I opened the laptop following your procedure (thanks, by the way) to check for loose connections but everything seemed okay.
The computer still works but there is no sound, modem nor wi-fi. And I can still connect to the internet via LAN cable…but it really sucks that I can’t listen to music or use the modem for dial-up connections.
What could be the problem? Please help me.
All three modules - the sound board, the wireless card and the modem connect to the I/O board and I think that’s your problem. Apparently the I/O board is bad. You can see the I/O board pictured on the step 17.
Do you need spare parts for your laptop? Search here by the laptop model and part description.

I know this problem. I had a tecra 9k with no function of the audio pcb which included wifi sd card microphone or H/P(also the wifi led would not fucntion when the slide switch was operated, this provided a clue to the fault). The cause is dry joints on the interconnecting PCB multipin plug between the Sister PCB and mother PCB.To cure all ails, strip whole laptop down( manuals available on the net for free) and reflux the SMD connector pins on both PCBs and resolder. Job Done! ( this is not a software problem)

I know the likely cause of this problem.I had a tecra 9000 which lost all hardware audio/wifi/sd card reader/microphone operation.( note also the wifi LED does not operate with the slide switch which is a hardware on/off to the wireless lan card) this is the clue to the problem
The cause? it is the sister PCB SMD connector to the Mother PCB connector which has developed bad soldered joints due to thermal cycling of the Mother PCB wrt to the Sister PCB.
This connector is the long multi pin connector which connects these PCBs togther.
Cure is to reflux the surface mount connections of both PCBs relating to this connector and re solder.Nothing to do with software!!There are dissassembly manuals freely available on the internet. it is an easy job for the careful with a small soldereing iron and liquid flux.

I also have tecra 9100.And the sound,Wifi & SD card does not work.Tried various methods except replacing the I/O board coz I think it would be expensive. So my solution to all of you who own 9100 with problems with sound & wifi,to buy a usb sound device & wireless USB.Btw my usb also failed. So i bought a PCMCIA USB 4 port.I feel it is better buying external parts coz you can used it on other computers rather than invest in replacing costly internal parts of the laptop.

I recently purchased a Toshiba Sattelite P105-6024 laptop and I cannot get the wireless to work. The computer comes with the Toshiba ConfigFree software that is used in lieu of Windows Wireless. Problem is that the Toshiba system finds the wireless signal but tells me that another vendor’s application is controlling the wireless adaptor. Any idea how I can find out what is controling the software and fix it? It does not appear to be Windows as that screed tells me the Windows connection is not being used.
Thoughts, comments???
Thanks
