My Toshiba Satellite A25 runs just fine as long as it is plugged in. Within a few seconds of unplugging it shuts down without warning. If I try to boot on battery it may get to the starting Windows stage but then shuts down. This seems to be signs of a "used up" battery.

I have purchased a new battery, charged it up and have the same results. I have no way to confirm that the battery is charged, but every indication is that it is.

Any thoughts on a solution will be appreciated.

hi,
I have the same problem as Costas and partly venkat with my sony vaio VGN-215S laptop.

It worked fine but yesterday it did not start for a while and today it doesn't at all.

I tried with andwithout battery, with and without AC adapter, took the memory out and in but nothinh helped.

When I press the power button the power light flashes once, the same when I unplug the Ac adapter. Before it started the last time yesterday the batterz light was still lighting when connected to the adapter.

Help would be great, thanks.

Bought the laptop in Germany but I am in Australia now so I can't even contact my dealer.

The famous ac jack problem with a gateway 450sx4. I broke it down and sure enough the solder was broken so I replace the jack with a new one from jacks.com. The new jack installed and now no power what so ever. Not even with the battery now....HELP

I must be missing something or could the new jack be faulty?

My daughters Toshiba laptop MOD #M45-S2652 PSM40U-07X001 wont power-up. It was sent in for warrenty, but returned not repaired because they said it was spill damaged. I was given A price of around $750 for the replacment of the system board, and the key pad just because the keys might have problems does this seem about right to you? The keys seem ok to me. Can the system board be repaired, or must it be replaced. It is a Satellite notbook. Thanks Dave

Joshua,
First of all you'll have to remove the motherboard from the laptop. I think you can find step-by-step disassembly instructions in the maintenance and service guide you can download from the HP website. After the motherboard is remove you'll have to usnolder the old jack and replaced it with a new one. Some soldering skills are required. If you never soldered before find a technician who can help you.

I have two toshiba a65-s156 laptops. One motherboard the switch and power lights come on but the laptop will not power on or boot. The other laptop shows no lights or signs of life and I thought of interchanging the components of the two motherboards to come up with one working motherboard. But I have no real idea what or where to begin in diagnosing the faulty components and replacing them. I can skillfully desolder and resolder the components but I have no general idea what components to begin testing to troubleshoot and repair the issue of no power. I do know capacitors diodes resistors but need a more exact area or component on the motherboards to begin at. The Laptop Freak mentioned of a motherboard fuse, which if these mobo have a fuse I am unable to identify it. Any no power tricks or tips in troubleshooting no power on a Toshiba A65 motherboard would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you

Amanda,
What about LEDs? Will they light up when you plug the adapter or the notebook is completely dead? May be you have a bad AC adapter?

My vaio also has the same problem as Venkat. I turned away from it for a minute and then suddenly the screen is black with no power... I got no warnings to say the battery was low.. And now it won't turn on at all.. The screen is black no matter what i do.. I tried taking out the battery but it still does not work..

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
