I am having problems with Windows Vista on my laptop
I have an Acer Aspire 1670 laptop and I am having problems with Windows Vista. I cannot use my lanexpress wireless card as Vista cannot use its original drivers can anybody help me out with locating drivers that will support the card with Vista. Vista also takes a dislike to the mobility Radeon 9700 and will not use the unsigned drivers needed to use the card :S Please leave comments on similar problems or any ideas for fixing these. Any help is much appreciated.
Not sure if ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 will be supported in Vista. I just checked ATI website and found a driver only for Radeon 9700 series but not Mobility Radeon 9700.
Vista is too young and it’s possible Acer will issue the missing drivers later.
Take a look at the wireless card installed into your laptop. If it’s an Intel card you can get a driver from their website.

I’ve been having nothing but problems watching streaming video on my PC since upgrading to Microsoft Vista.
Ever since I upgraded I can no longer watch videos on dailymotion.com. All I get is a blank screen where the video should be.
However I CAN still watch videos on Youtube. What is that all about? Is Youtube using some different method of delivering videos?
I know there must be others out there that are having the same problem as I. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks.

Hey John,
That’s strange. I’m running Vista Ultimate edition and just tested videos on dailymotion.com in treen different browsers IE, Firefox and Opera. All three browsers were able to play video.
Try installing Firefox and see if it works fine for you.

Vista can run Radeon M9700 – got one in my Satellite M30x and working just fine both on beta drivers and new RTM drivers. Well it runed on Vista drivers as well
Since you CAN install XP drivers on Vista – i think you can run most of older hardware. The only issue is that your BIOS must be ACPI compilant. If not – no Vista at all.
I`m happy user of Genuine Vista Business, recently running Vista Ultimate RTM tryout – there were no problems in any case. Well one was – OS native card reader drivers (for unit installed in M30X – can’t remember name) was working in 75% – was able to read Sony Memory Stick but with SD cards it wasn’t working. I`ve uninstalled Vista drivers and put XP ones and it works just ok
(writing about it because i`ve seen on other sites that some people have same problem and can’t solve it so maybe it’ll help someone

I have an Acer Aspire 1680 and have just installed Windows Vista as a fresh install. However, Vista does not recognise my computer as a laptop and therefore does not recognise it has a battery meaning I cannot view the battery meter (it will not let me chose the option to display it) or alter battery options in Power Options.

I have exactly the same set of problems, also with an Acer Aspire 1670 series – I haven’t yet found a solution though! I’d also be equally grateful for any advice.

Hi,
I installed Vista on my Aspire 1670 and had no problem with the old wireless card driver. Same problems however with the graphics, although ATI says Radeon Mobility 9700 is supported by Vista. Found a Vista driver for it online, but it doesn’t work.
If you still have problems with the wireless card, you can download the latest XP driver from the Acer website. That is the one I used without any problems. If you find a driver for the graphics, please let me know!

I just bought a Gateway P-6831FX, it’s using Window Vista. I tried to use external mouse (4 of different mice). None of them works. Window always asks me to install driver. and even after i have successfully install the drivers, the mice still dont work. I had tried to figure out the problem from several websites, apparently it happened to a lot of people.
Plz help me.

Ken, try this.
1. Connect to the internet and run Windows update. Make sure all patches are installed.
2. Find out if you have the latest BIOS installed. If not, update the BIOS.

I bought an Acer Aspire 3680-2633 that came with Vista already installed. After having severe problems with Vista, my husband wiped the computer, installed XP and almost everything works properly except I hear sounds coming from both the laptop speakers and headphones at the same time. The software/drives are Realtek, and even when the option of headphones is selected on both the computer system info and Realtek, I still get sound from both devices. Any suggestions, because I truly do not wish to have to reset everything back to Vista? I would rather buy MAC than deal with Vista again. Thanks!

ZAFAR,
If the laptop came with Vista, it’s possible that you will not find XP drivers. Apparently, this laptop is designed to work ONLY with Vista OS.
Usually, you can download drivers from the manufacturer’s website. Did you look in there?

Donna,
I believe this could be hardware related problem. Inside the headphone jack there is a small switch. When you plug in headphones, you press on the switch and because of that sound switches from external speakers to headphones. Apparently, there is something wrong with the switch and it’s not working properly.
You can try this solution.

Donna,
Also, make sure the headphones connector is plugged all the way down into the jack on your computer. I just tested it on my Dell laptop. If headphones connector is plugged only halfway, I’m getting sound from both external speakers and headphones.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I did look into it further, double checked the plug in, etc. Nothing helped. My husband finally found out that it wouldn’t work right because XP does not support HiDef. He got an “upgrade” program directly from RealTek (apparently they have come out with a newer version that works with XP for HiDef), and it seems to work properly now. The volume does not get as loud as it did before, but at least it is no longer producing sound from both external speakers and headphones. Hope this solution can help others out there.
Also, for Zafar, I found last night a website that offers “free” various driver downloads compatible for XP programs. I cannot recall the website name, but I found it by doing a search under the terms of free driver downloads for XP (this was using the MSN search), so it may help with his problem even though it is a different computer.
Thanks again for your suggestions and fast response!

Its a mobility 9200, it displays fine because i found a way to install it but when i close the lid the whole laptop shuts down or cant come out of standby. Sorry i cant really remember the problem because it was a while back but i really liked vista and would want it back. This frustrates me even more because i am a computer technician but cant find a solution, please advise.

My Windows Vista laptop is not even a year old. I just noticed like a few months ago that it keeps shuttong down by itself. Sometiems it stays for days without shutting down. But usually when I’m on the computer and it shuts down, I turn t on again. But about 10 seconds after I log in, it shut down again. This happens about one to three times a day. I’m not even doing things that require a lot of power, just little thongs like typing or moving the mouse. I downloaded Ad-Aware to see if cookies are the problem, but it still shuts down. I don’t know what to do, can you help me?

Mirza,
Are you getting a “Wrong Machine” error when you rung the recovery disc? Apparently, the motherboard DMI is incorrect and it has to be reprogrammed as I mentioned in this post.
I think in your case the DMI string is “Satellite A100″ instead of “Satellite A105″ and because of that the laptop “thinks” that you have a wrong recovery disc.
You have two options:
1. Take your laptop to the authorized repair center and ask them to change the DMI string.
2. Install generic version of XP.

Hello!
I have an Acer Aspire 4920-5A2G16Mi. It was supposed to have Linpus Linux OS but I preferred to have Windows Vista Home Basic as the OS so I have it changed. I do not know if it is the main reason but the problem is that headset seems not to be functional with the laptop. Even if I plug in the the green and pink jack, the speaker continues to produce the sound and not the headset. It has a realtek drive, by the way. I hope Somebody can assist me with this. Thanks.

Liz,
Could be software related problem. Did you try to use system restore utility to revert it back to the time when your laptop worked fine?
Try it.
Start menu – All Programs – Accessories – System Tools – System Restore.

I recently purchased an Acer One (netbook) that I would like to connect, wirelessly ( since it does not have a modem), to the internet using a Sony Vaio laptop as an aceess point.
The Vaio connects to internet via dial-up (ADSL not available in my area).
Everything I read says this is possible ( by ad hoc connection) & following all network connections instructions doesn’t help.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok so I have a Toshiba Satellite P205 S6287 and for the past 2 weeks I have been having a lot of problems.
At first it would retsart by itself a lot a lot with a Blue Screen, but it hasn’t happened as much.
It freezes every few seconds.
My laptop will open up disks like photos and what not, but will not even reconize a DVD and I used to be able to play dvds on here.
It used to run really fast and good, but now it runs really horrible and slow….
I have read some of the other comments on similar topics
and it said BAD MEMORY, BAD HARD DRIVE, RUN A TEST and stuff like that I clicked on the testing link but I wasn’t sure how to do it. (I get confused if words are not simple words I understand a lot better if I am told step by step)
Also I have this Nortan Anti Virus and at one point I had a few viruses some TROJAN type thing my bf cleared them up and then it was still running great, but I read that these dont clean up viruses 100% all the time, but I run full sytem scan every 2 days just about and nothing come up and it will run all day pretty much and it shows nothing. I have tried the system repair but it shows that nothing is wrong with my comp. I just dont know wut else to do. I have asked differant people and they dont know whats wrong with it they just tell me to restart it or take the battery out(which I did. I left battery out over night a few times but nothing changed) I dont know what else to do so if you can please help me!
Thank You
