When I use my touch pad to move the cursor, once in a while it will send me to the previous or next page

I’m having problems while viewing Web pages or even say going through folders on my computer because when I use my touch pad to move the cursor right or left, every once in a while it will send me to the previous page (when I move it left) or forward to the next one (if I move it right). I am getting so frustrated with this because if I just finished entering any information I have to redo it all. Is there a way to turn this off? It’s been doing this since the day I bought it. It doesn’t do this every time but it does it enough to make me want to pull my hair out, please help!

I think you have some kind of advanced settings enabled in the mouse/touch pad management utility. You’ll have to turn off these advanced settings. I think there could be some settings for tapping on the touch pad. For example, when you tap on the left corner it takes you to the previous page, when you tap on the right corner it takes you to the next page. Search in the control panel, find this mouse/touch pad management utility and disable advanced functions.

I have a Toshiba Notebook, and I want to know how to turn off the touchpad.

When I am typing on Word, it constantly “clicks” somewhere else on the page, and my whole typing sequence is messed up.

It’s very frustrating to have to removing the cursor and placing it to where I left off.

    Please help.

To turn off the touchpad, either right click on the touchpad symbol in the system tray, and choose “Touchpad off” or use FN+F9 key combination.
If you want to just change it… it might have to do with this…

My Dell laptop has been acting very weird for last few days and has now become even worse. When I start my laptop it takes me to diagnostic mode and get stuck until I press and function keys which then takes me to pre-boot assessment 3017 and runs some test and then takes me to a page where there are couple of colored lines and asks for manual input for the question are these lines visible [Y/N] at this point I cannot enter any input as my keyboard is not recognized. Then I randomly click some function keys which then gives me a message that user complained that lines not visible and then takes me to BIOS settings where again none of the keys work to let me browse. I then again hit some random function keys and if I am lucky it lets be login. When I finally login I can just type maximum a word or two and then funny series of characters come up on their own.. it’s a fixed series which keep repeating ‘fsda/-;’ it then opens my volume control box where the speaker sign is replaced with some smiley then opens real player and then shuts down my PC. My Keyboard gets fully disabled during this process except for the function keypad. The description might suggest that it is a hardware problem but since the fn keypad works it makes me believe it’s more of a virus problem than hardware problem. If anyone can help me with this I shall be really thankful as I am in need of some urgent help.

    Hoping for some help soon.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Thanks

We have an Inspiron 1420 laptop with a normal trackpad. Recently we’ve had a problem where the pointer will not go down no matter how much you drag your finger down on the pad. The pointer will still go left and right, but not up or down. It usually lasts a minute or so and then it stops, but I’m worried that if we don’t find a solution then it will get worse. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

    Thanks a lot!

    Scott,
From your description it’s hard to tell if the problem is software or hardware related. Try reinstalling Windows and see if the problem is gone. If it’s still there, it’s a hardware related problem. Most likely the trackpad itself is going bad. I’ve published your question and some troubleshooting tips here: Laptop trackpad problem.

i have now been noticing the same problem from a long time. and got an answer. go to mouse settings and then just set your mouse sensitivity really low.
    >go to control pannel
    >go to mouse
    > tapping (top left corner)
    >take off everything
    > go to sensitivity (bottom)
    > make it as low as possible
    DONE DEAL!! :)

The touch pad will move the cursor around and.move the page up and down, but does not enter anything. I have a wireless mouse and that does work fine, but I cannot use the computer without the mouse as I did before.

this is how you do it.. I’ve just finished exploring my unit ACER 4730Z on how to disable this touchpad.. Just look in your keypads in your laptop, find the image ” a finger pointing a box”, with the combination of “Fn” button. Problem solved, touchpad disabled..

    Good luck!
