All of the USB ports stopped working after I upgraded XP Home to XP Professional

All of the USB ports stopped working after I upgraded XP Home to XP Professional. I also installed all of the Windows service packs.
One person said that he had that problem, and got a web answer saying something like “run some type of windows program that would clear the USB settings and then reinstall them correctly. Does that sound familiar to any one?

Try this. Go to Control Panel – System Properties – Hardware – Device Manager. Find Universal Serial Bus controllers and expand it. Right click and uninstall any single entry in there. Reboot the computer and Windows should detect and install all missing drivers automatically. It might help.
You don’t need any special drivers for USB ports, Windows already has it.

Thanks to you and everyone who helped. I just went to the “Device Manager” and removed all (8 or 9) USB entries. I then cold booted. Windows reinstalled all of them, and MAGIC! They worked for the first time since I upgraded from XP Home to XP Pro. Thanks very much.

Any tricks to getting an USB 2.0 cardbus to work on a Tobisha Tecra 8200. I’m running XP Home. I’ve tried two cards which work on another machine (older Dell). Device Manager recognizes the PCMCIA slots and the cards, but devices aren’t recognized when connected to the card. The oversea’s tech support for Toshiba was rude and totally unhelpful. FYI … I have the latest BIOS and software updates from Toshiba. And the USB1 ports on the machine work fine. Any ideas will be appreciated.
