My laptop keeps dropping FireWire connection
I just bought a Toshiba Satellite M100 laptop. It is running Vista Home Premium and everything seems fine except when I capture video from my DV, it keeps dropping the connection (IEEE 1394). I need to unplug the FireWire cable and reconnect it again to get back the connection. But later it dropped again. This never happened with my old laptop. I used the same program (Adobe Premier pro 1.5), the same DV and the same FireWire cable.
Any ideas?
It can be a hardware related problem, but check the BIOS version installed on your laptop first. After that visit the manufacturer’s website, find out if there is a more recent version of the BIOS available for downloads and if the new release covers your issue. Update the BIOS if needed and see if it helps. I’ve seen it many times before when the BIOS update fixes very strange laptop issues.
Could it be a hardware problem? say, loose cable of the FireWire socket?
The FireWire socket is soldered directly to the motherboard, there cannot be loose cable. If the socket itself is bad then it’s necessary to remove the motherboard and replace the firwire port. Probably your laptop is still covered by warranty and Toshiba (or authorized center) will replace the motherboard at no charge.
If you don’t want to replace the motherboard on have no time for it, you can go with a FireWire PCMCIA adapter, you plug it into the available PC slot on your laptop and get a few FireWire ports.

A friend of mine access internet via a landline which is connected to the usb using a serial-usb cable. but he uses a (landline telephone). and then he refused to tell us more about how he does it. i really need help from you thanks.
hey, but one day he told a friend that the landline was configurated and then their was software application……/ was this a lie? coz these landlines belong to an isp which is a telecommunication campany. please help me coz i also wanna get connected. thanks

Hi. I have a question that does not fit any of the existing categories and posted solutions.
I have an old Dell 5000M laptop that had a great LCD that supports resolutions up to 1600×1440 (or thereabouts). The laptop itself is dead, but I’d like to convert the LCD to a free-standing external LCD if possible. After I’ve disconnected the LCD panel, how would I go about adding the necessary hardware and wiring to give it a VGA or USB connector?

I have a question. I have a sony vaio pcg-9231 laptop. I cannot get it to connect to the net. We plugged it in to where our desktop is and it didnt connect that way. we get internet through our cable company. Can you please help? Thanks.

I have a question about connectivity I have a Fujitsu N3010 and I believe my wireless card no longer fuctions it is a broadcom 802.11b/54g. I need to locate the Internal PCI port this card is connected to. How do I access this the internal pci port on a Fujitsu N3010 to replace the card?

I have a year old hp laptop with vista. I travel between dial up modem and Lan cable. It used to work fine on both connections. Now only on Lan cable. The dial-up moden does connect to the server and diagnostics log says modem is working properly with no errors BUT it won’t connect to the internet. I took it to the shop for a “tune up” but that didn’t help. Any ideas?

Do you get dial tone at all? Take a look inside the modem jack, maybe you have bent/damaged pins.

Laptop freek.
A Friend bought me a expasion port 3 docking station for my hp pavillion zv6000. However, my hp has an expasion port 2. i was wondering if the 2-3 adaptor that hp has out will work(they were no help with this question). Will i get all the functions out of the docking station or should i buy a new computer with the expansion port 3.

I recently received an HP G71-329 as an Xmas present. I have dial up internet connected to my older desktop. Could someone briefly tell me what I will need to connect my laptop to the currently in place dial up service that is on my desktop? Will I need an external modem? Will I need additional software?

I just purchased a new laptop and would like to set it up to play on my HD TV. I have HDMI and S Video ports and cables. Do I need to buy a VGA cord to connect to my TV, or will one of thess other cables work? I tried connecting to the TV, but cannot get anything to come up on the screen. Can you tell me what I need to do to either use the HDMI or S Video cords to use my TV as a monitor?

Hi, I bought an S Video cable to connect my HP laptop to my Toshiba tv. When the desktop appears on the tv its jumping in black and white. Do you know how i can fix this??? Thanks!

Hi there i recently bought windows xp ultimate installation kit to install on my toshiba satellite pro a120 laptop i booted this from the disc and installed fine only i cannot connect to the internet the screen will flash white once but nothing happens i have a 3 mobile dongle and this connects no problem but everytime i click on internet explorer it wont connect can you help me please? Sorry, no answers for others. I have an HP Pavilion Slimline s3600f. Windows Vista SP1. My nephew erased the network adapter totally from the device manager. It now says I have no network adapters when I try to establish a connection to the internet. I went to HP and downloaded the only thing I could find under network adapters from another computer and installed it, but it still showed none. I then reformatted the entire disk to put back to purchase condition, but still no network adapters. How do I get it back, so I can get online? I have dsl through ATT. Their help to get on told me since I have no lan connection, I had to get help somewhere else.
