Microphone stopped working after I reinstalled Windows

I have a Toshiba Tecra A3. I recently took off Windows and reinstalled it, but now I’m having problems with my USB webcam and microphone. The video is fine, just that i can not record any sound….HELP! I downloaded the CD it came with fine, and reinstalled the audio driver…nothing seems to work. How can i fix this?!

Maybe the microphone does not work because it’s muted?
Here’s what you can try.
Go to the Control Panel and click on the Sounds and Audio Devices icon. Click on the Advanced button. After that click on the Properties in the Options. Enable Microphone volume control and click OK. Now you should have the Microphone volume control in the Play Control window. Make sure the microphone is not muted.
Uncheck the Mute box and test the laptop again.

    akshobh,
First of all, check all microphone settings. In the control panel click on Sounds and Audio Devices icon and then go to Advanced settings. Make sure the microphone is turned on.
Here’s something else you can try. If this is a software related problem I think you can fix it by using Windows System Restore utility. If you are using XP, you can find this utility here: Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore. Restore your computer to the time when the microphone was working.

Unfortunately, the audio jack is soldered on the motherboard and Toshiba doesn’t supply these jacks separately. I cannot tell you where to find a spare one.

I have an NEC Versa E3100. It works fine in every way. Except that for some reason I can’t monitor mic audio. I have a mic plugged in the mic jack, I can see the meter kicking in Cooledit. So the mic audio is coming in. BUT there doesn’t appear to be a Mic playback category in the Windoze audio player setup. I can see Master Volume, Wave, SW synth, CD Player and PC Speaker. All controls are up and nothing is muted.

How can I do a voice record and monitor the audio while it’s recording? –geoff

The mic play category still will not appear. Suggections are welcome. –geoff

I have an HP G60 120 that I bought in November ’08. I’ve continuously had microphone problems both with Skype and the Cyberlink YouCam software that came with the webcam and microphone in the laptop. I figured out the other day that in the control panel (hardware and sound, sound, manage audio devices, recording, double click on “Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221, levels), the level of the microphone isn’t working properly. At first I just thought it was set at 0 and needed to be reset. Then I noticed that as I am recording on the webcam or talking in Skype, my microphone level goes down to zero. I have to constantly keep the sound window open in front of Skype to keep clicking up the level so that the other person can hear me. Any suggestions for a more long-term fix to this issue? Thanks for your help!
