I stepped on my laptop and cracked the screen
I stepped on my Toshiba Satellite L45 laptop by accident, and now there’s a really big crack with some liquid coming out of the LCD from the the screen. When I touch the screen I can feel bumps where the cracks are located at.
They said that I probably have to buy a new laptop, but I don’t want to because my uncle had just bought it for me a month ago and I feel really bad for what I’ve done. Is there any possible way to fix it without having to buy a new LCD (it would really suck if i have to buy a new one!)?
Nope, you cannot fix the screen. If the screen has been cracked you’ll have to replace it. Check out these instructions, should be similar to your laptop.

On the same issue, as the same guy. I was wondering what you meant by “…nope you’ll have to replace it”. Replace what?. The Screen? Or do buddy, and I, have to replace the whole laptop? Wouldn’t you say it would be afar bit ridiculous to have to purchase a brand new laptop, just because of a cracked screen?
Any help would be great, I’m just wanting to fix my LCD screen for my Dell Inspiron 1501.
thanks,
Alex

Alex,
If the laptop screen has a crack, you’ll have to replace the screen. Here’s an example of removing the LCD screen from a Dell laptop.

Hi
I have a few questions i hoped you could answer. I’ve been googling around after somehow managing to roll off the top bed, onto a table, thus breaking it, and at the same time cracking the screen on my laptop. All of this in my sleep. I have an Acer Aspire 5920G with a 15,4″ WXGA screen. I’ve not been particularly fond of the resolution, and was wondering if you can upgrade to say WXSGA+ without having to replace inverter, or lcd cables. (Been hearing some rumors of cables burning up etc). I take it the dimension of the panel will be the same since it’s a 15,4″.
The reason im asking is merely that im concerened of compatability issues related to this swap. If certain brands have different cabling, inverter-needs or anything else that is of importance to this.
Regards, Robert.

Robert,
Most likely you will not have to replace the inverter board because the backlight lamp will have the size for all 15.4″ screens.
But I think a new WXSGA+ screen (if you can find any) will require a new video cable.
Sorry, I cannot give part numbers because I don’t work with Acer laptops.

My screen got cracked a few months ago and as I suspected it kept getting worse and I know I have to replace it. I’m scared to fix it myself because I don’t want to damage it beyond repair. Could you give me a ballpark cost for the screen + labor? I have a Toshiba Satellite A105 I think. Or would it be cheaper/more worth the cost to just get a new laptop?
Thanks so much!

I cracked my Sony Vaio screen (about 1 cm /0.5 inch) at the top right of the screen.
There was some “bleeding” but I could use the laptop (and I didn’t move it). After four days, the bleeding got less. Until after three weeks, the bleeding has gone and the screen is clear (but cracked).
Does anyone have a suggestion for either sealing the crack (apoxy, silicon, super glue, etc) or for limiting the spread of the crack?
Thanks
Charles

Charles,
I wouldn’t use apoxy, silicon, glue, etc… You’ll make it worse. The only way to get rid of this problem is replacing the LCD screen.
I guess you can use anti-glare screen protection – a clear film that you place on the LCD screen.
Of course it will not fix your screen, but it will prevent dust from getting inside.

Can a Toshiba A55 S106 cracked screen be removed and the laptop be used with a regular monitor. Thanks Dan

Dan,
Yes, you can do that. I would recommend not just removing the LCD screen, but removing the whole laptop display panel, so your system looks like that. Laptop with removed display panel (only with the keyboard installed).
If you want to remove the display panel yourself, you can use my disassembly instructions.

Hello Laptop Dude,
I have a DELL M1530 With a Full Hi Definition, glossy widescreen…
And I ,like a Douche stepped on it , Luckily it was closed and not a hard step thus not cracking The beautiful 15.4 HD screen but Ruining my Extrodinary 3 week old laptop.
To the normal eye it looks like nothing is wrong BUT to me Who is a Filmmaker and Editor – With a Good eye and a need for Visual Satisfaction and Perfection – there is like two or three spots (All in the same area) which from afar look like they are more brighter then the rest of the screen and close-up look like condensed Broken pixels!!
So I think but don’t hope that i Destroyed those areas of The LCD and am looking for the ‘Knight in shining Armour’ that will tell me im wrong and find me a FIX or a Troubleshoot for this kind of thing…
Laptop Freak? are you my knight?
Please be!
Thanks
Alon
p.s. I Refer to you as my knight in the most heterosexual way possible!!!

My son stepped on my Toshiba satellite laptop while it was closed and I now have the same issue as the person stated above…there is crack (that I can not feel) and black liquid pouring out. What can I do to fix it or will it repair itself as the person above stated?

Hi,
I tripped on the cord and so my laptop dropped. I didnt crack or break anything (I hope) How do I know if my screen is ok??? It’s not cracked but now I have this sorta white spots — not sure if they have been and i just noticed it now or it was the result of the drop:(
Thanks!

I have a line in my HP Pavilion TX2000 screen. I want to say its a crack, but you can’t feel it and my touch screen works fine. Its more cosmetic then anything else. Is it a crack or something else? In order to get it to go away do I have to replace the screen? I can just buy a new LCD screen and do it myself right? Thanks!

So, I have an Aspire One Netbook, it got stepped on and the screen has a few cracks and some black specks here and there. It is starting to go away very slowly. I am wondering how this happened. 0.o
