I replaced backlight and inverter but the laptop screen is still dim
I have a HP Pavilon dv1000 laptop and the screen flickered with black lines for about five months before going totally dim. I have had both the backlight and the inverter replaced and the screen still does not light up. Is this a motherboard issue? Or is it a cable issue? Can this be repaired or does it have to be replaced?
Have you tried reconnecting the video cable on the motherboard? It’s possible that the video cable is not making a good connection with the motherboard and reconnecting the cable can help. Just unplug the video cable from the motherboard and plug it back in.
Does your laptop have a display close switch? The display close switch is a small button located somewhere close to the laptop hinges. This button turns off the backlight when you close the display. If the button got stuck inside, the backlight will not turn on even when the laptop is on and the display is opened. Try tapping on the lid close switch and make sure it moves up and down without any problem.

Hi, my dughter spilled a drink over her Acer 9412wsmi laptop and didn’t have the patience to let it dry out before trying it again. Screen worked for 10 seconds then died. Changed invertor as the backlight wasn’t working but that didn’t fix it so tried to check the voltages on the invertor input, should see 12v on one of the pins but wasn’t there so presumed the invertor wasn’t working because of lack of power. Took the middle cover off and I could see what looked like charring by the video connector but that could have been the remnants of the drink dried up. The invertor power is fed through the video connector and I’ve no hope of fixing anything their so what I want to do is to provide an alternative 12v to the invertor to see if that will make it work. Problem is that I cannot find anywhere a diagram that shows which if the 6 pins should have the 12v. Would anyone out there have any idea where to get such a pin-out from or a wiring diagram for the laptop? The inverter has a number of different partnumbers, LX.ADF05.057, LX.ADF05.100, LX.ADF05.108, LX.ADF0J.012, LX.ADF0J.013, LX.ADF0J.016, LX.ADF0J.075, LX.ADH0J.007, LX.ADH0J.008, LX.ADH0J.035.

Sheena,
Check connections between the video cable and screen inverter, maybe the cable is not plugged correctly.
