Toshiba Satellite M35X has no video and beeps

When I turn my Toshiba Satellite m35x on there is no display and it makes 1 short beep – 3 short beeps – 3 short beeps – 1 beeps

Sometimes after trying a lot it works fine but each time take more tries
what can i do???

Toshiba Satellite M35X beeps this way when you have a memory related problem. Either the memory module is bad or it’s not making a good contact with the motherboard. Try reseating the memory module, move it to another slot. Try installing a known good memory module and see if it helps.
It’s possible that there is nothing wrong with the memory module and you have a problem with the memory slot on the motherboard, but this kind of failures is not very common. In this case you still can use the laptop if you move the memory module from the defective slot to a working one.

    Hi again
I move the memory module to the empty slot. Now when I turn it on it doesn’t make the beep sound but there is no display yet.
    What do you think????

    Luis,
I think the memory module can be bad. To find out if this is your problem, you’ll have to test the laptop with another known good memory stick.

    Hello,

I have the same problem. I guessed it was memory related. I purchased another RAM and tried to seat in any combination I could think of: 1 each, then 2 of them together. Still, it would beep 1-3-3-1. Sometimes, it doesn’t beep, but then the display won’t show any thing.

Same problem on Toshiba mx35 laptop .. read this posting .. read other postings with dire predictions of failed motherboards and the like … moved the memory module to the other side .. success! point learned, check memory module first before going nuts with your credit card at your local coputer store.

I’m having the same problem with my Toshiba laptop, I believe it is an mx35 also… I have tried starting it with the RAM in both slots, but still it has the 1-3-3-1 beeping combination, and nothing on the screen. Any ideas as to what I can do? I have tried cleaning out the slots with compressed air, which worked when I had this problem a while back, but now it does nothing.

    Thanks!

Me too! Same problem. I switched the memory around and got no beeps or video. Got so frustrated that I sort of, ahem, ‘jarred’ my laptop and then it worked!

I’m thinking that maybe some kind of bad connection between the mem bus and the motherboard….

I had 2 256k mem modules. One day i got the no beeps and video, so I took it to the shop. They pulled one of the memory modules and I was left with only 1 with 256k. Now the beeps started…..

Time to get a new one……..

Hi – my Toshiba Equium A60 has recently collapsed. When I turn it on the fan starts up and the LEDs on the front show that power is being supplied, but nothing else happens. There’s no beep, the display doesn’t come on, and the only thing it responds to is being turned off and on.

One possible cause is that battery power expired while the laptop was shutting down – but I’m fairly sure this isn’t the cause.

I’ve had a few occasions when the laptop has cut out due to overheating, I guess, but the fan looks clean enough from the underside.

Hard drive works fine (I’ve taken it out and used it on another PC).

    Any thoughts?

I was playing a game on my laptop and got a few beeps, immediately followed by a black screen and prompt shut off.

Now the computer won’t restart, the fan will start, followed by a series of beeps (1 low, 4 high, 1 high, 1 high). Then the fan stops and the processor does not move, and the screen is still blank (I don’t think the screen even attempts to come on).

I’ve sprayed the fan on the back and the side with air dust to remove dust particles, but no change.

It is a Toshiba Satellite M55-S3314. The warranty has expired (I’ve had the computer for about 3 years, give or take.)

    Hi
After updating My hp pavilion dv6291ea bios to newest1 from f29 to f2d it was successfully Done
as per bios update from HP but after i power on my laptop it was not show any display when booted up. Screen remains completely black, not just dim. Error code is 1 long beep,
followed by two short beeps and it Continuous until i remove battery?. Information I’ve found elsewhere indicates that may be a problem with the RAM,
but I’ve tried replacing it and it had no effect. It has two RAM slots and I’ve tried swapping the cards,
as well as running off one at a time. Basically i covered every possible combination of RAM placement then i buy new ram,
but got the same problem? is it possible to flash bios to older ver? some how please help

I have an Acer Aspire laptop. The screen hang and I restarted it by off-ing it, but when i on it again, the screen was blank and there was 2 beep sounds. the light at the side flashes but goes away. the fan is still working and all, but the screen is always blank. i tried to off it, plug off the power and on it again after half an hour, but the same thing happens, this time, there was only 1 beep. i tried this for a few times, letting it rest and cool off, and sometimes it was one beep, sometimes is was 2 and then silence. can someone let me know what is wrong?

i have a very srong feeling its my harddisk that has crashed. is that the case? i have got alot of really urgent and important documents in my harddisk and am very worried that i cant retrieve them! (i do not want to spend that big amount of money on data recovery)

would appreciate if someone could enlightened me on what is wrong with my laptop! i have just reformated the whole laptop in july 2008. i urgently need my laptop and the data in my harddisk.
