Comments on: My laptop was dropped and now I cannot access the hard drive

Hi. I have a problem.My woman dropped her laptop from tv table.im talking about DELL she bought it half year ago.So when i turn it on its loading up til comes screen with some options .HARD DRIVE,CD DRIVE,NETWORK and etc. when i press on any of them it thinks in black screen then comes up text for a second and then back in the same menu.also it shows me a message that i can press F2 or F12 but.
In my logic i thing,something is disconnected inside the laptop so i took outall screws and now i feel a bit stupid cus i never opened any laptop only home pc’s. I need any help or advice ? also i cant open 1 screw from bottom box its just stuck,i can screw it back but cant take it out.Any help what can be wrong?Woman dosnt want to go waranty cus she has many stuff in pc what she dont want people see.sorry for my bad english.anyways im waiting for anykind of help please:)

My laptop was dropped. Toshiba Satellite L300 20D. I now try to turn it on and the screen remains blank. Not even a back light. I have tried plugging anexternal monitor into it with no luck. I have also noticed that when I do turn it on I can hear the fan working, the power light comes on but the HDD light does not do anything. It used to flicker when Hard Drive in use. Now nothing. Im wondering if its a HDD issue.

Any ideas?

i dropped my asus laptop down a flight of stairs & it’ll turn on & get 2 were it says microsoft & its trying 2 load, then it goes 2 a page that says internal system is shut down

Update, I took my Gateway M1634 in to the computer repair shop and the entire hard drive is toast. The owner started running a diagnostic on it and at only 5% complete it already had 20 errors. Since I bought the laptop July 2009, he said it must have been defective from the beginning as it’s not old enough it should have failed. Gateway was no help at all, as to even talk to their computer experts over the phone would have cost me $129.99 (since it’s out of warranty) and the repairs are going to cost me over $160.00!

My Gateway M1634 froze while playing the Sims, too. When I went to restart it after this happened, it asked to use the last known good configuration. I entered yes to this and left to go shopping, so it wasn’t dropped and everything worked fine prior to this. Also, it can’t be overheating as I have an external fan cooling it (you can hear it running), but now it won’t boot at all past the bios screen as when it reaches that point it now reads “a disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart”. I have tried all of the suggestions I have found, but nothing has worked. I would like to reboot from a disk, but didn’t get one with the laptop!

hi, I dropped my laptop, I was playing a the sims game in bed and fell asleep, I woke up with a bang the laptop (sony vaio) fell on the floor, its switching on and i think its loading up but the screens black and the keyboard part doesn’t seem to be working ( noticed when i pressed caps lock the light didn’t come on, any help would be great! thanks
1 hour ago – 4 days left to answer.
Additional Details
is it broke even though its switching on? it starts off saying vaio in big writting followed by windows loading files then appears to be loading but cant see any thing, might something have got loosened? i also tried an using a lead from the laptop to the tv but nothing came up :/

I was at my computer desk with my laptop and id decided I wanted to go sit on my couch, doing so I took my laptop with me i dropped it but caught it as well so it dint completely hit the floor(it is a hardwood floor). I did system restart but nothing worked and went to recover my file but it still says error And just goes to black screen i’m not sure what this is but I would like to know!

Please provide more information:
Does the laptop start at all?
Can you see the logo on the screen?
Does the screen stay on all the time?
etc…

I dropped my 2 year-old laptop (Acer 5315) and it worked fine for another hour until the battery died. After plugging in the charger, it will no longer run Windows. I will get a screen to pop up saying “Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.” Then it gives two options: “Launch Startup Repair” and “Start Windows Normally”.

Whichever I select, it will take about 15 minutes and then end up at the blue screen of death with the message: “STOP: c0000006 The instruction at 0x%081x referenced memory at 0x%081x. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0x%081x.”

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know something is seriously wrong, but the fact that it even turns on gives me some hope. Is there some sort of home remedy for this? Thanks!

i am trying to find out what is wrong with my laptop i start it up put the dell reboot disk in then when it goes to the start windows recovery it says to push f8 it does not do nothing

Are you trying to reinstall Windows? What is wrong with the laptop?
