After the laptop was dropped the screen stopped working

I bought my daughter second hand IBM t30 laptop, she dropped it now there is no picture just black screen, plugged in external monitor and laptop works no problem, had the screen out and everything looks ok there is no cracks or damage to the screen so what do you recommend I do next?
p.s when i start laptop you get a mixture of colors on screen for about 1 second then black screen.

First of all I would check the video cable. It’s possible that one of the ends got loose.
- Check connection between the video cable and the motherboard, you’ll find this connector if you remove the keyboard.
- Check connection between the video cable and the LCD screen. You’ll have to disassemble the display panel and take a look on the back side of the screen.
Reseat both connections, it might help. If it doesn’t help, most likely the LCD screen has been damaged and has to be replaced.

I recently dropped my Sony Vaio on a tile floor. The computer turns on and off but the LCD screen is shot. It is cracked and blured. I want to replace the screen, but before I pay the money to replace it, is there anyway to tell what the extent of the damage is to the rest of the computer? The computer is only a month old so I’m hoping it can be repaired!

    Thank you!

OK.. LCD screens are very sensitive and if you drop them you may break them.. You may need to get it replaced.. hold the screen in “weird positions” to see if you can get it to work.. give it smacks on the sides… hit the screen with both hands at the same level with the same hardiness..

Laptop: Sony VAIO U101 (a mini laptop)

Problem: Screen will randomly flicker. Following the flickering, it will sometimes go back to normal but more often will freeze the whole computer. I would have to force a hard shutdown and restart (reboot). When it does freeze, both mouse and keyboard will stop responding. The flickering and freezing happens very frequently about a 10-30 mins of operation. The LCD screen is intact with no damage to it and displays things normally.

Cause of the Problem: I dropped it twice since I’ve had this laptop. The first time was at an airport. The second time was in a laboratory.

Already tried: Moving the screen back and forth sometimes helps the flickering go away but also sometimes helps promote the freezing of the laptop. I suspect here that it may be a wiring problem but again it sometimes doesn’t do anything when I move it back and forth.

I haven’t opened it up yet to see the wiring as some of the posts here suggests. However, I’d like to get anyones first impression on what the problem may be.

I have a “feeling” it’s a hard drive problem as the shock from the drops may have damaged it. I’m just trying to see if any body suspects a wiring, motherboard, RAM, etc problem. Please, any comments will help. Thank you.

Hi, I wonder if you can advise me please.

I recently sold a fully functioning, much cared for T30 laptop on ebay and despite careful packaging, the buyer informs me the screen is not working. He describes it as “when it is turned on the screen has all lines down from top to bottom and that is all that can be seen”.

When the laptop is plugged into an external monitor it works fine. I can only assume it has been dropped in transit. There is no external damage to the machine at all.

I wondered if you could advise the appropriate steps to ascertain the problem.

    Many thanks
