Could it be a virus?

I have the same problem with HP DV1000. I hit the little lid button on the upper left side of the laptop to get the screen to come back on. I find that certain mouse clicks will cause the screen to go dark.

However, it can’t be a screen issue because it works perfectly in bios and in dos mode.

It has to be a software issue, isn’t it?

i have dell inspiron 1520 and my problem is when i turned on my pc with the power supply my screen goes blank; but if i use battery powered only then it can be seen maybe a little dim but still good

Thanks for the tips. Mine still flickers in BIOS mode. It will come back to life occasionally when I force it to change, like when I shut and open it.

screen on laptop will not work after the laptop is closed then opened again but the pc is still on!

Hi – I have a Gateway 6332 laptop and I’m having the same problem everyone else is, except, I’m not a computer person, at all. I’m having trouble understanding what everyone is saying and how to follow the instructions. I would love for someone to talk to me in kindergarten and help me through this. I don’t even know how to check my brightness for my screen. Someone help, please. Thanks!

Hi,

So i’ve read around both here and other websites that my problems has to do with the backlight and/or the inverter. The laptop screen was flickering, but I’ve just put it on powersave mode to make my screen dimmer on purpose. So far, the flicker is gone but I know eventually I will have to have this fixed. My question is, am I supposed to have just the backlight fixed or the inverter or both? The screen is still visible when the light goes out as with other cases. Also, do you know an estimate of how much this will cost? Thank You!

My problem sounds very similar to those listed. I have a Dell Inspiron 600m. When I turn my computer on, the screen goes dark (not completely black though, as I can still read the monitor). I do not notice the screen appearing pink, as described in previous threads. After doing reseach, we first replaced the invertor. The computer worked great for ~ 2 hrs then, same problem. We just now replaced the entire LCD monitor. The computer worked for ~ 5 mins then again went dark (though possibly a little brighter than before). The monitor does stay on longer with the brightness reduced. Any thoughts, since replacing both the invertor and LCD did not work??

Hmmm, lots of problems, but very few solutions.

Has anyone had any further success with the problem of losing the lcd backlight?

Hi Laptop Freak,

I have a problem similar to many listed here.

My HP Pavilion dv4000 recently started to get a dark screen when I plug in the charger, and a bright one when running on battery power – the opposite of how it used to and should be.

I’ve tried fiddling about with the power settings, but don’t really know what I’m doing and haven’t been able to rectify it.

Any help or advice you have would be greatly appreciated!

I also have the same problem. Yesterday. My vista updated and I have had the problem also. It starts up fine then 5 to -0secs later goes dark. Thought it was off till I read comments here but it is faintly on. When you hit fn f5 it comes back on for a few seconds. The problem is on both my dual boots. Ubuntu and vista. I have a toshkba satellite a135-s4467. Also another thing I’ve noticed is before hand my screen was slightly flickering and had a slight red tint. It only flickered when it was plugged in though
