Laptop monitor stops working after I plug a web cam

I’ve been having a problem with my Toshiba A105-S4254. When I plug in and use a Logitech web cam, after about 5 minutes, the laptop monitor just shows a black screen. You can tell that the monitor still has power going to it, but only a black screen is shown. The power is still turned on but I have no idea whether or not the computer is still running. I do not believe that there is a problem with the camera since I did not experience this problem prior to reformatting my computer.

I ran a memory test and that came clean. Do you guys have any suggestions?

If the same web cam was working with the same laptop prior to reformatting, apparently you have a software related issue.
Make sure you have the latest web cam driver installed. Go to the manufacturer’s website and download the latest device driver for your camera.
Also, make sure you have the latest BIOS version installed on your laptop. Upgrade the BIOS if needed.

    Mark Cox,
This problem is not related to a virus. Even with a virus infection you still should be able to turn it on a get video on the screen, at least the logo. From your description is sounds that the laptop has no video at all, so most likely this is a hardware related problem.
    You can try this.
    1. Remove the hard drive and start the laptop without it. Find out if you can get video with the hard drive removed.
    2. This also sounds like a memory problem. Try reseating the memory module/modules. Move the module into the empty slot. If you have two modules installed, removed them one by one and find out witch one is causing the problem. If you have only one module and reseating doesn’t help, try replacing it with another working one.

I think you have good chances to fix the laptop by replacing RAM.

    Hindge Problem — Toshiba A45-S120

I understand that the hindge break fails often on this model. Will the cover stay open if I replace only ONE hindge? The hindges are quite expensive thus replacing both hindges will almost equal the value of the laotop. Please advise.
