Several keys on my Gateway notebook keyboard are broken
I don’t see anything addressing a Gateway notebook. My kids popped off and broke several keys on the keyboard, so I am planning on purchasing one from eBay and am wondering if the process would be the same to replace it as your suggestions have been on this site. Thanks for the help!
If you want to replace individual keyboard keys, you’ll find help in this article. If you want to replace the whole keyboard, continue reading here.
I hope it helps.

Hi,
I’m a 2nd grade teacher who had a Dell Inspiron 8100 donated to my classroom a couple of years ago. I am the only one to use this laptop and the ‘Y’ key has stopped working, which means I can’t even login right now. When this problem happened previously,as instructed by a kind IT person, I took the top of the key off, blew out dust using a can of air but the same key has stopped working again and my previous solution isn’t working this time. Should I consider replacing the entire keyboard (yikes!) or is there another solution I should try first?
I am technically challenged but love my dear old laptop as it means I can work at home when needed. Any help is greatly appreciated as we only have 10 weeks left in the school year.
Thanks!

Im on my main computer because the keyboard on my laptop has gone very strange..i spilt some milk on it earlier and as i was wiping it i pushed a feew buttons. Ever since then, everything is working other than the keyboard. It jumbles all the letters up and ads === into everything. Say i was pushing a it would come up something like B==v=a==o. And when i push the space bar it comes up bN or something like that. What is wrong and how can i fix it? thanks.

Question: My enter key broke a Year ago, i still had the rubber part of it still working with me, so i used that till one month ago where I had those rips and cuts till eventually the whole rubber part fell off. but now every time i put my finger on top of the enter button, it wont take it. is it possible that the problem is because on the rubber there is a little piece of a black dot that connects with the straight metal part of the bottom of my keyboard? And if it will work, will it be possible for me to buy a new key and get the rubber part with it. (Oh yeah, im using a Dell inspiron 6000)

Hee Jin,
Sounds like a keyboard related problem. You cannot repair the keyboard, you’ll have to replace it.

Hi
I just tried to replace a keyboard on a Gateway 4028gz laptop and it was simple to remove the old keyboard, notice something spilled on it and replaced it with another keyboard. But now, when I power on the Gateway laptop, it won’t go past the boot screen, it says hit f2 or f10 and has the gateway logo in the background. I have tried several times reconnecting the ribbon and was very careful with it when I slid into the spot, but it just wont get past that boot screen. Any suggestions?

@ Andy, have the same problem!! An external won’t even work, I cannot get into bios to tell it to use an external keyboard. Can anyone suggest a fix? It is a gateway laptop. The keyboard had soda all over it (sticky as it sat a few days and I rinsed it off and let it sit in front of a fan to xompletely dry. I reinstalled it and the F10 and other keys work, but not F2, but itbwont getbpast the loading settings screen. Please help if you can!
Thanks a million!

My 11 year-old daughter accidentally poured liquid on the keyboard of her laptop computer and the keys stopped working except for letter X. We would appreciate very much if you could provide some advices on how to fix it.
Much obliged.

You don’t have to replace the whole keyboard if some of your keys fell off. There is a key replacement company I ordered my keys from. They have video tutorials on how to fix your keys. And its very simple. Have a look: laptopkey.com
