My laptop has no lights when I plug the AC adapter
I have a HP Pavilion zd7000, question is, I get no lights on when I plug in the a/c adapter. I tried without battery and still no lights whatsoever. I hope its not the motherboard, I will hate buying it and that not being the problem. How can I know if it’s the motherboard or something else? Thanks for any replies.
What makes you think that you have a problem with the motherboard? First of all, you have to test the AC adapter. Make sure the adapter provides correct voltage, you can test it with a voltmeter. If the AC adapter is rated 19V, you have to get the same 19v on the voltmeter. It’s possible your adapter is dead and the laptop doesn’t get any power.

When I press the on key (Toshiba Dynabook T5/X16PME)
The on light comes on and then 15 seconds later it goes off. I took the cover off of the back side of the start key and there is a little electronic pillow with a connection, could this be the problem and how do I find a part number as I have no manual and cant find one on the net.

R. Browning,
I guess a little electronic pillow with a connection is the power button. I don’t think that’s your problem. The power button is only a ON/OFF switch. When you press on the power button, the light comes on, so the power button works fine.
Can you test the power adapter? It’s possible that your adapter is dead and the battery has no charge left to start the laptop.
If the power adapter work fine, it’s possible you have a problem with the motherboard.

I have almost this EXACT same problem. I have a zd8000 and recently the charger had “died” (the power light no longer turned on) and was not powering the computer, so I ordered a replacement one off of Amazon and got it yesterday but when I plug it in the computer does nothing. No lights, nothing. This has lead me to believe that my charger fried my computer or vice versa, making this new charger useless since my computer’s internals are still fried. Though, after looking at the voltages on each of the chargers, the new one I bought does have a little lower voltage and 6.5A instead of the original 7.1A, but I am not sure if this would be a problem. Any ideas?

I have a Gateway 7508GX, and my problem is sort of the opposite. My AC adapter light (the little icon of the plug) stays lit even when the unit is not plugged in. It just started doing this recently for no apparent reason. It still charges the battery, and the unit works if I plug it in and remove the battery.
I’ve had this laptop for 3 years, and I’ve had to get new batteries twice and new ac adapters twice.
It’s not really a problem, but I have this feeling that it’s not simply broken light and it portends trouble.

I own a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5855 notebook. I recently replaced the AC adapter with one from Office Depot since first charger stopped working. For the past 2 weeks, the new charger has worked fine. Tonight, I tried plugging the new adapter into the computer to charge it, and all I heard was a beeping noise from the adapter. It will also not charge my computer. Any ideas or tips would be appreciated.

My Sony VAIO mouse pad has just stopped working when the A/C lead is plugged in. Unplug it and the pad works fine. Really strange thing is that my 2 daughters VAIO’s are doing the same thing, all on the same day. Any ideas?

Hi,
I have an Asus A3500 with the same problem. There is no light en in the charging led when connected to AC.
I got a new battery go another AC adapter for it but still no luck:-/
It’s works ok when AC is connected.
Can there be anything loose inside that I can fix myself or is it the motherboard that need a change?
Thanks

Hello-
I have a hp nc6400 and it will work with the battery but the but it will not work with the charger. I checked the charger and it is working. I am guessing it is the motherboard. Can this be fixed?
