Toshiba Satellite A15 modem will not work
I have a Toshiba Satellite A15-S1292. The modem will not work. There were many virus issues with this computer when I got it so I ran the recovery DVD to start with a new slate. It still will not work. It is listed as a Toshiba Software Modem in device manager. The Device status says working properly. Query Modem says port modem is attached to could not be opened. Troubleshooter says COM port may be disabled. I try to look at Ports in device manager and NO COM ports show up only LPT1. Is the problem with the COM ports or the Modem?
The only way to find out is replacing the modem. I think that’s your problem. Fortunately, you can find this modem here and it’s not very expensive. You can easily access the modem through the door on the bottom as it shown in this guide, take a look at the step 3.

I have a problem here, of course we all do.
I just bought a acer laptop and i have my ethernet cord running into my laptop. the Internet works fine while i am on it. as i get off or leave to go out for a bit, eventually, (1hr or 2) the internet will turn itself off from my laptop but still states that it is connected. i have to unplug my cable-modem box and wait ten seconds then turn it back on and then restart my laptop for the internet to kick back on. this is a big pain when i go to bed or leave and try downloading music, or torrents.. it stops all downloads which takes long as it is. If anyone knows if there is a option in the internet options or something rather to “allow internet to stay on” please let me know. i would really appreciate it

Daniel,
Does your laptop go into hibernation?
Try this. Enter power options properties in the control panel and change all settings to Never, so the laptop stays on even when you away.

Hi, I have an Acer Extensa 4220, Windows XP SP3, Broadcom LAN Card, Siemens SL2_141 Modem and for quite some time now I have been facing rather strange problems. When I try to connect or rather dial up(Bridge Mode) my DSL conn using a wired connection after startup.. I receive a window with the message..
“Connecting through WAN Miniport(PPPoE)”, and finally ends with
“Error 678″….This happens every time for the first 5-10 mins right after startup, and after that period it connects and works without any problems. This initial wait period happens every single time after startup. But if I log off in midst of operation and relog into another account or log right back in it works perfectly fine, without issues. Also noticed the same connection delay when the modem is in PPPoE mode. During this period the modem operates normal with all the standard lights and the lights on the RJ45 on the Lan card on the laptop is also on, indicating a working status. Also found that after probably 5 hrs of continuous operation the Internet connection hangs(Data Transfer Stops) and the LAN symbol on the system tray just stays constant(no blinking). Tried to disconnect manually and the status screen does not appear also the right click on the LAN symbol fails. Tried restarting the modem and found no change. So far the only option is to restart the computer and then it works perfectly.
Performed a modem TS but found that it was perfectly working. Performed virus and malware check..found a couple of intruders, removed them but still same issue.. I suspect an OS issue. I would highly appreciate it if you could give some solutions to the problem. Thank You.
