Notebook screen flickering a rainbow of colors

I have problem with my screen flickering a rainbow of colors even when I was at the Windows bootup logo. But when i using a video output everything is fine. Any Idea?
I have a Compaq Presario V3000 Series Notebook PC.

The external video works fine, so your problem is not software related. I don’t think it’s motherboard or video card related problem either, otherwise you would get garbled video on the external monitor.

You can have this problem because of:
1. Loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen. Try reseating connection on the back of the LCD screen.
2. Loose connection between the video cable and the motherboard. Try reseating connection on the motherboard.
2. Bad video cable. Try replacing the cable.
3. Defective LCD screen. Replace the screen.
4. Problem with the motherboard but it’s not very likely.

    Hi,
I have a Sony FS850/W Laptop and I’m trying to connect the Laptop to my HDTV Panasonic via Svideo and the TV screen is just flickering. I tried to change all the graphic properties available in Laptop but the TV does the same. Is there any way I could see the exact image in Laptop from TV? Please advise..

I have a Presario v2000. About a week ago, my screen went blank for no reason. I soon realized tat the screen must be turned on at a certain angle, then it is free to move around with no problems. Now I still have to turn it on at the angle, only if I pas that angle, there are pink shapes that change according to what’s on the monitor. These shapes don’t appear on an external monitor.I have checked the video cable behind the LCD, nothing lose.

I have a Compaq Presario 700Z. It has a history of at least one drop that I know of, and a problem with overheating that I’m repairing with the use of a cooling tray. However, at least once or twice a day the screen spazzes out in this vast array of colors, similar to the mentioned rainbow colored or monochromatic screens. Not sure why, though. Stops on its own.

How can i tell if i need to replace my laptop’s lcd screen, or just the backlight, or the lcd inverter?
i have a gateway mx6650, and it has had pinkish tones for some time, but just 2 days ago, the screen started flickering wildly. it flickered for a while and then went dim (i could still barely see the dark image of the desktop. i hooked it up to an external monitor and can see the desktop fine on the monitor, but the laptops screen would still flicker wildly. so, which component seems to be the culprit? screen, backlight, or inverter? thanks in advance.

    Could be bad LCD cable.

You’ll have to test the laptop with an external monitor. If both internal and external screens fail the same way, there could be a problem with the video card.

If external works fine all the time and this problem appears only on the laptop LCD, it could be:
    1. Failing LCD screen.
    2. Defective LCD cable.

It’s hard because in most cases the inverter board and backlight lamp fail with very similar symptoms.

i have a gateway mx6650, and it has had pinkish tones for some time, but just 2 days ago, the screen started flickering wildly. it flickered for a while and then went dim (i could still barely see the dark image of the desktop.

You mentioned pinkish tones and I think it could be related to the backlight lamp failure.

Hello.I am encountering problem nowadays on my laptop, Dell XPS 1330.Last week as i turned it on, the LCD becomes gray for too long,so i have to force shutdown it several times. After rebooting it and runs ok,in the middle of my activity,my monitors flicker tremendously then suddenly shut down it self.this scenario is not persistent because last night until now i don’t have that problem.I am still monitoring this problem. What do you think is the problem?I don’t remember dropping my laptop or hitting it hard since it is just safely sitting on my table. Pls advice. Thanks
