Video becomes garbled when laptop is moved or lifted up
When I move or lift up my laptop video on the screen becomes garbled and everything freezes. The laptop works fine as long as it stays on the desk but when I lift it up video goes bad and cursor freezes. After that I have to do a hard reboot.
Today I had to troubleshoot a laptop with similar problem.
The laptop was working fine on my bench.

As soon as I lifted the laptop the normal display changed to one pictured below. The screen freeze up and I had to reboot the laptop by holding down the power button for a few seconds.

I tested the laptop with an external monitor and external video failed exactly the same way as video on the laptop LCD.
The external video was absolutely fine when the laptop was on the bench.

But it failed the same way after I lifted the laptop.

When both internal and external video fail the same way, it indicates a problem with the video card. Most laptops have integrated video (video card is a part of the motherboard). If that’s the case, you’ll have to replace the whole motherboard.

Hello,
I have a M30-604 Toshiba. Sudently last week it had some problems. At the begining it would not boot (procedure would stop at some (ealy) point, then it would reboot itself. Sometimes it would eventually boot to windows and after some time it could crash (black screen). It seems that it is a problem with the video card (embeded unfortunately). I opened it, just in case, and now, after closing it it behaves “better”. In the display after some time appear some vertical-horizontal lines indicating video card problems, but when i hit the laptop lightly with my fingers they change, some times they disappear (for short time), other times the computer crashes.
Can I do something? (i.e. if there is a problematic soldering somewhere?) or motherboard replacement is the only option?
Thanks a lot

I’m using an IBM t30 .. and recently when i turn it on… well first the IBM logo is shown, then the screen just goes… some black and white pattern (sorry, my enlish is too horrible to describe it. I’d take a picture, but I don’t like shutting down and turning on again)
However when I remove the battery then place it back again, it goes back to normal.
Could you spot the problem here? :X
Thanks a million times.
