I am running full laptop recovery. It powers off when I start second recovery disk.
I have a HP DV5000 laptop, and I decided to do a full PC recovery, so when it tells me to put in 2nd disk, once I put the disk and press OK after a couple seconds while its trying to load it, it powers off automatically, I turn it on and start it over and it still does the same thing. I have never experienced that before, I have done PC recoveries a lot of times before. Please help me, I have contacted HP support they do not know the problem.
I’m not sure if I have the right answer for you but…
1. Make sure the second CD is clean. You can clean up the CD with soft cloth.
2. Run hard drive diagnostics test. You can use Hitachi’s drive fitness test, that’s a good one. Could be something wrong with the hard drive.
3. Run memory test. Memtest86+ should work just fine.
I doubt that your laptop powers off because of overheating because it happens only when you run the second recovery disk, but just in case clean the cooling module. Make sure there is no dust inside the heat sink. You can blow off the dust using canned air.

My HP PAVILLION ZV5000 does the same thing. it used to stay on in safe mode for a while then shut off but now when i turn it on it makes 2 long beeps and 2 short beeps with all blue lights on but no screen or sound.

A friend recently removed some of the runnish from mt Dell laptop, it was slowing down and had far too much stuff I don’t need. However he has managed to remove too much as the laptop will boot up but not stay turned on, the only way I can actually get it to stay on is by pressing F5 and going to last known good configuration. I cannot find my set up disk what can I do??

Hi,
I recently had a problem with the laptop automatically shutting off, so I rebooted the laptop. I tried installing the OS but in the middle of it, it shuts down. Now when I turn on the laptop, it will shut down in a few minutes. Now I have no OS installed and cannot do anything on the laptop. One last piece of info… I have a hp pavillion… Thank you… Laila
