Vertical lines 1 pixel wide appearing on the laptop screen
I have a laptop with the same problem with a lot of people, vertical lines 1pixel wide appearing on my screen. First it was just a line then 2 ,3 , you get the point! Now, after about 10 months of use, 45 lines and going!!! External monitor works fine.
Is there a way, besides replacing the LCD screen, to fix this?My laptop is Toshiba Satellite M60.
P.S. This thing with the vertical lines is a really common problem. Shouldn’t Toshiba deal with it accordingly?
Unfortunately, the only way to fix this problem is replace the whole LCD screen. If your laptop is only 10 months old, most likely you still have warranty. The LCD replacement is covered by the warranty.

I was cleaning my laptop screen with a tissue and I accidentally pressed a little hard at one place to get rid of the dirt. I showed liquid that all lcd screens do when pressed. Since then I became paranoid that I might have damaged my screen, as this is my brand new computer and I am kinda fussy about it. Apparently I don’t see any damage. I just want to be sure that such minor pressure does not damage the screen.
Your help will be appreciated.

I have a new Acer Aspire NetBook, after only a few weeks the LCD screen went (mostly white with a cracked pattern of lines). I returned it to Acer under warranty but they say this chargeable. It was not dropped, there is no physical damage to the case, etc. and I had bought a protective carry case, the type where it stays in all the time even when in use. Is it possible for the LCD to have been faulty?

I have a Toshiba Satellite P100-188 (Model No. PSPA3E-02W00XEN).
I have the same problem as the original question – multiple vertical coloured lines 1 pixel wide. My online research suggests that the problem is overheating of the video card.
My questions are:
1.Is this the most likely cause?
2. If so, can i just replace the videocard, or do i need to replace the whole motherboard?
3. If i need to replace the motherboard (and am going to go to the trouble and expense of doing it) can i also upgrade the following items:
a. Processor (there appear to be many different motherboards for the P100 / P105 – which has the highest processor speed and is compatible);
b. Memory – what do i need to do to make sure i am buying compatible memory;
c. Hard drive – what do i need to do to make sure i am buying a compatible hard drive?

Gentlemen,
I have a Toshiba M65 17″ laptop. It is approximately 4 years old. I have had the screen replaced three times at the authorized repair center under warranty and another 2 times out of warranty at the Toshiba repair depot. Each time that I got it back, it worked for about one week and than the vertical lines would return like a bad penny. They are pink, white and blue. They are always in different locations and I have not even moved the laptop from my work desk after the repairs. Any othter suggestions to eliminate these pesky lines.

First of all, call Toshiba depot and ask them to fix the problem. The repair should be covered under internal warranty (I hope).
That’s very strange that you are getting same lines after a few LCD screen replacements. Very strange.
I would say you a have a problem with the screen but after so many replacement I’m not sure… Bad video cable?

Hi everybody.
I was working on an old HP Pavilion (zv5000) and two vertical lines of flickering pixels had appeared. First, it was just one. Now, there are a couple of flickering vertical lines, 1 pixel wide, having a space of two inches between them. External monitor works ok. Should I replace my LCD monitor? These lines seem to multiply, and I don’t think I should attribute this issue to graphics card overheatting.
Troubleshooting?

I have toshiba l30 model. I have formatted and loaded xp-sp2 in this machine. While loading the software the display is ok. But after loading the vga display driver. The display is not ok.

I think I have similar issue… My 1.5 year old laptops LCD screen after 6 month use started showing 1 horizontal white pixel line (well the line color kind of depends on what colors are above the line but usually it’s white) after 3 more months second appeared and today I spotted a third one now it’s one 3 pixel thick line at the near bottom of the screen. I found that it’s monitors fault because it always shows. However I found a trick to TEMPORALLY FIX IT: by easily pushing left top monitors corner forth and right top corner back the line disappears and appears again if I release the corners.
My monitor has suffered water damage it still has these bright tiny spots at the right corner this could be the problem. Also the screen occasionally spawns partial dead pixels because it’s old and suck.
Any ideas?

Sounds like the LCD screen failure. Unfortunately, you cannot fix this problem. You have to replace the LCD screen.

I have a 4 month old HP Pavilion DV7-3060us laptop running Windows 7 with a ATI Radeon HD 4530 GPU. Just yesterday, after being online (between sessions of playing a few light puzzle games) for several hours, as I was about to shutdown for the night, several horizontal flickering pixels 3 or 4 long started appearing wherever I highlight a area of the screen. They disappear wherever I move it. I immediately shut it down and today when I booted it up, the flickering pixels has not reappear yet.. even after several hours of use.
my questions are.. should I be concern? Will it occur again or get worse? What is or may have caused this? Is the video card overheating? I run a cooling pad constantly and it’s well ventilated and it never feels hot even when under intense gaming. I haven’t any hardware problems until now. All my drivers are up to date. Can I fix this?
