I replaced laptop screen but have no picture at all

I replaced the laptop screen today and I have no picture at all. I can see the backlight come on and an external monitor works fine… a friend said maybe a driver but I am lost at this point.. this computer has been hooked to an external monitor for about 3 years if that matters at all.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000.

It’s not a driver related issue. If you can see video on the external monitor, most likely the driver works properly.
Have you tried reconnecting the video cable to the motherboard?
It’s possible the cable is not making good connection with the motherboard or the cable is bad and has to be replaced. Also, there could be a problem with the motherboard but I would try replacing the video cable first.
By the way, I assume that you purchased the LCD screen from a reliable source and it’s good.

I got the lcd screen from a supposed factory direct dealer on ebay. I have never had issues before the other screen was broken. I never even took anything apart until the new screen arrived. I double checked all contact points and changed the video cable today with no results. I messaged the seller on ebay and told him I was sending this screen back. I ordered a new one from dell today so we will see what happens when it arrives. since the screen has been broken the computer has only seen about 10 to 20 hours of up time, in 3 years. thanks for your input and I will let you know how it turns out.

Hi, I have a problem with the display on my Packard Bell Easynote Mz35. When powered up the display stays black. Have tried pluggin in external monitor from pc and doesnt work either. Fn+F3 (toggle display) doesnt have any effect. The hard disk light is constantly on, doesnt even blink.Thought that was strange too. The laptop hasnt been dropped. Any advice please?
    Thankyou.

I have an IBM Thinkpad R40 (bought refurbished) with a broken lcd (dropped). I too have used with an external monitor. I am looking to replace the lcd panel. The product code label on the back of the lcd panel lists HT14X14-101 with an IBM P/N 93P5547. The replacement item I am considering is HT14X14-101 but has a different P/N # likely from a Thinkpad T21 laptop. Will this panel work with my laptop???

I own a toshiba TE2100, i also had a problem with my screen, and after replacing it, i have no display but the back light lights up… i belive it could be the Nvidia 4 420 Go graphics card, is there a way i can test that theory?

I have a Dell Latitude D810, with a black screen.
Because the display is fine on an external monitor, and because there is no reddish tint to the screen when it occasionally flickers on for a second, I figured (based on the literature) it was an inverter issue.
I bought a new inverter and installed it, but to no avail.
Now, rather than the image on the screen being dark although visible with a flashlight, the screen is entirely void.
I assume that the LCD will continue to work without the inverter, although dark, so the (new) problem cannot be a bad inverter or a poor installation.
What do you think is the new problem? Could I have damaged the LCD screen somehow in replacing the inverter (this is my first job repairing my laptop, so this is possible)? Or could I have simply pulled loose the LCD cable (connecting it to the motherboard)?

Some insight would be supremely appreciated.

Actually, scratch that last post (I tried to myself, but could not find out how to delete it). It was a simple matter of having loosened the LCD cable at the LCD.

Anyway, I replaced the inverter and the screen was still blank, though viewable with a flashlight. I assume that this is a backlight-lamp issue, although I haven’t experienced the reddish tint or any other sort of coloration that I’ve heard in descriptions of faulty backlight-lamps.

My question, then, is if there are any other reasons why the screen might be dark as it is, beyond replacing the backlight-lamp (which I am loath to try, as it is far more complicated than the inverter)? I read in another thread, which I have since lost, where you had mentioned checking the connection of the LCD cable to the motherboard, or that the LCD cable could be faulty. If this were so, could the image even be seen, although remotely, on the screen?

    Enlighten me, please.
