My laptop does not start or turns on and freezes

My Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop will not start for few days and then after few days later when I tried give another shot to restart. It does boot up then after few click it freezes and can turn off and boot up again.

So far I managed to boot up but in middle of boot up it freezes.

However, when I try to turn it back on, nothing happens. The screen doesn’t turn on, the fan doesn’t turn on. The only thing that happens is the LED lights turn on briefly.
I tried turning it on with and with out the battery and I get the same result.

This sounds like a possible problem with the laptop memory. It’s likely that one of the memory modules is not making good connection with the motherboard or failing. Try reconnecting both memory modules. Try removing memory modules one by one and test the laptop with each one separately. If you have only one module installed, try replacing it with a know good memory.

I would appreciate any suggestions on fixing my laptop (Asus X50N, 2 GB RAM, 120HDD). I have used my laptop for just over 3 years, no serious issues until this morning when it would not even boot up. The symptoms are as follows:

    1. The power light turns on for about 1-3 seconds, and the fan turns briefly for about a second and then shuts down completely.

I have tried the following so far:
    1. Tried another power supply unit
    2. Cleaned the fan
    3. Tried turning the power on and off several times
    4. I disassembled the laptop: removed the hard drive, dvd, wireless cards, modem, etc, removed the heat sink and checked the cpu was mounted properly (seemed ok, no discolouration),removed the ram, etc. I cleaned the fan.
    5. I assembled the motherboard with the following: re-assembled the cpu and heat sink back, inserted the ram, fixed the fan, and connected the battery only.
    6. When I press the power button (no matter how long I press it for), the green led lights up briefly (1-3 seconds) and the light for the mute/audio button lights up, and the fan turn for a second. Then nothing at all. I also tried this with the AC power supply connected, and it made no difference.

Any helpful solutions to fixing my laptop would be welcome. Many thanks, Thom

i have a toshiba satellite L305-S5944 it got a 32 bit intel duo-core pentium 3. The problem I am having is that when i go to boot it up unless the bios is in the default settings I get a really bad beeping noise. it’s a noise like ahhhhhhhhhhhh it doesn’t have a rythmn to it like it’s 1 long 2 short. it’s just loud and obnoxius. I tried flashing the bios which went successfully. however that didn’t solve the problem. I tried reformatting and installing the OS after the OS and the browser especially started acting funny like being in IE and the file tab would start acting funny so i would reset back and it would be okay for awhile then it go and do the same thing within 20 minutes. I did a virus check w/ norton and a spyware search I’ve got no clue what the story is. if i am trying to boot from a disk I can’t do it the noise comes on. it’s driving me crazy.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1526. There is a problem with it when I turn it off for hours. It does not boot up though the lights turn on. All I see are the lights and a blank screen and no Dell logo. But if I try to turn it off and on and off and on again, it goes back to work as perfect as it can be. No problem as long as it is on. It does not freeze nor stops. It even turns on perfectly when it was just turned off. The only problem is when it was shut down for a long time or for some hours. But every time it happens, I just have to keep turning it off and on and off and on until the Dell logo appears and then presto it will work perfectly again until the next time I turn it off for a long time. Any idea what is wrong? Thanks.

    Dave,

Brand new dell inspiron laptop with windows 7 i got for christmas. Was on it for 10 min. It froze when i was on the internet. I went to turn off my new dell laptop yesterday and it said please do not unplug or turn of your computer uploading updates. It has been loading 3 of 4 updates for over 24 hours. It says resuming windows and then goes to a black screen that says that. What happened and how do i fix it??

    Not sure what’s going on.
    Here’s what you can try.
Turn on the laptop and as soon as Dell logo appears on the screen press F8. Select “Last Known Good Configuration” from the menu, press Enter and see if it helps.

Here’s another trick. Unplug the AC adapater, remove the battery. Press on the power button for a few seconds. Now plug in the AC adapter and try turning it on.
