Laptop shuts down when I leave it alone for a while
My laptop keeps shutting down on its own but its only when I leave it alone for a little while like I will go eat dinner then about an hour later it will shut down. I don’t think this is a overheating problem because it would be shutting down when I am on the laptop. This only happens if i leave the laptop for an extended period of time.
Check settings in the laptop power management utility. I think the laptop is set to go into sleep mode or hibernation after not being used for some time. Change settings from go to sleep/hibernation mode to do nothing.

I’m having the same problem, but I’ve checked every possible setting. When I turn my computer back on, it always says that it was shut down improperly, but I didn’t shut it down. Also, no error or problem appears on any event log. What the heck?

Drew,
Will it shut down while you working on the laptop or it happens only if you leave it unattended for some time?

I am having the same problem but the laptop is shutting down properly, since Windows starts up normally every time. Checked the power settings, and it only shuts down when I’m not on it so I don’t think it’s overheating. I have a SSD is that makes any difference. I’ve checked updates and turned them off, turned every automatic power saving setting off etc. This just started a few weeks ago no major changes in hardware or software except I switched from AVG to Kaspersky.

Zoe,
Does it power off completely?
On the next start, does it take you to the boot menu (with Safe mode, VGA mode, Last Known Goog Configuration, etc….) or it boots straight to the desktop (or login screen)?

I’ve been having a similar problem. However my laptop does not only power off when it is left alone, but rather it even shuts down while i am in the middle of doing something. When i turn it back on after the shutdown the black screen coming up stating that windows has been not been shut down properly and the options of safe mode, safe mode with networking, start windows normally etc come up

hi there,
i have a HP – Probook 4510s. It has a problem where it occasionally just switches off. it while im working on it. there is no blue screen, and i dont think the laptop is overheating as it s not getting hot, and it sounds like the fan is running.
really stuck as it is a work laptop and i need it constantly.
i also used a program called HWMonitor, and the temperatures of the processor dont go higher than 40 degrees celsius.
can you think of anything?

hi
i have an hp i hope to find an answer and not to plan on replacing this one. when i walk away from my laptop and it goes into a sort of permanent sleep for the time the only way i can get it to restart is to completely remove all power to it, i have to take out the battery and then when the battery is put back in it will finally be turned off, and i can start it. im wondering if this can be fixed or is it a sign to replace it.
