Toshiba Satellite suddenly asking for a BIOS password
I have a Toshiba Sattelite A305 and yesterday when I turned it on a blue box appeared and it asked me for a password. Someone told me it has something to do with the BIOS and told me to remove the BIOS battery. I’m not sure what it is but I think it the blue little battery which it attached to the motherboard. In other laptops it can be removed but I’m not sure if it can be removed in these type of computer. Does anyone know how to fix the problem.. PLEASE.
This is a known issue with some newer Toshiba laptops. The laptop can set the BIOS password on its own and I believe it happens because of a glitch in the BIOS. I’ve seen many laptops like that.
You are correct, the BIOS battery is the blue little battery soldered to the motherboard, but removing the battery will not clear the password. Removing the battery worked for some older laptops but not for new models.
I believe that Toshiba fixes this problem at no charge even for out-of-warranty laptops (at least for laptops sold in the United States). Call Toshiba, explain what’s going on and ask them to clear the password. If they say no, do not give up and call again. Talk to another representative.
It’s not your fault that there is a glitch in the BIOS. Why should you pay for that?

Thanks Ken!
By the way, if you call Toshiba and they say this issue is not covered, hang up and try again. A different representative might give you a different answer.
