A vertical line appears on the right of the LCD. Should I replace the screen?
A vertical line appears on the right of the LCD. I have yet to try it out with an external monitor but I would like to know if it’s worth purchasing the screen online? My local Toshiba distributors charged 470euros for a replacement screen!
I have a Satellite L20 laptop.
I wouldn’t spend 470euros for fixing this laptop. For that amount of money you can buy a way better laptop with newer hardware and warranty.
But it might make sense to fix it yourself. It’s not very difficult to replace the LCD screen in a Toshiba laptops and takes about 20-30 minutes.
You can find a brand new LCD screen for Toshiba Satellite L20 here for about 110-120USD.
Disassembly guides for many Toshiba laptops could be found at www.IrisVista.com
Don’t worry if you cannot find your model listed, read though LCD replacement guides for other models. They all are very similar. You’ll get an idea how to replace the screen.

Hi, I have a gateway MX6957 laptop, it had a power problem that ended up with me having to change the mother board with a new one not a used one.
Well it all started fine but the lcd display lights up ok but only displays at the top 1/3rd of the screen, I connected it to an external screen and that works great.
Any help would be great

Hi, excuse the lask of technical knowledge but I’m hoping for some advice….my Dell XPS M170 which has just finished it’s warranty, has developed a flickering vertical line on the right hand side (just before where a minimize button would be on fully-opend program). In the last few weeks on powering up I get a message that my battery needs replacing – anyone know if this is why I’m gettung this line?
Thanks

Sheryl Maher,
I really doubt that the vertical line on the screen is related to the battery problem.
Most likely you have two different problems:
1. LCD screen failure.
2. Battery failure.
