Laptop speakers and headphones have bad sound
I hear music come out of the laptop speakers but it sounds really bad. I tried to use my headphones but it still sounds bad.
It’s either a software related problem or the laptop sound card is bad.
First of all, try reinstalling the audio driver. If it doesn’t help, back up all personal data and reisntall the operating system from the recovery disc or installation CD. Install missing device drivers if needed and test the laptop again.
If the sound is still bad, you have a failed sound card. Unfortunately, in most laptops the sound card is integrated into the motherboard. If the sound card goes bad, the whole motherboard has to be replaced in order to fix the sound problem.

My speakers were working fine one moment but then stopped working after i used in my headphones. I still have sound when I use my headphones but when I unplug it, i can not hear anything from my laptop speakers. I went through the troubleshooting on my laptop but I still can not get sound to come out of my laptop speakers. My Laptop is DELL INSPIRON 6000,I tried to manipulate the microphone pin like removing and putting it in fast many times, but no benefit. Please help!

My Dell Laptop is playing sound fine, however, it will not allow me to only listen to the sound through my headphones, it plays in the headphones, but still plays through the laptops speakers too, I have tried multiple headphones, (I have not tried usb plug in headphones though) but I am not even sure if that would help the problem. I have reset and troubleshooted all of the audio options but I am not sure what to do next. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

My dell D600 speakers stopped working properly after I had been using headphones, now they sound scratchy. I was thinking it was the soundcard, but I’m not sure.

Brian,
Test sound with headphones. Is it scratchy too?
If the laptop has garbled sound in both the external speakers and headphones, it’s either bad/corrupted driver (try reinstalling driver) or there is a problem with the sound card.

I have two problems associated with my Acer Aspire notebook I purchased in January that they seem unable to do anything about.. I have re-downloaded the driver per their instructions and that did nothing to help..
Here are the two problems.. My sound goes up automatically, when you open the menu and pull the bar back down it doesn’t work, it goes right back up to the top.. This doesn’t happen all the time, you just never know when it will though but all the time your fighting to get it to stop, a flashing speaker image comes on my screen and I have no idea how to get rid of it..
I purchased this notebook to put my games on, well, it kinda goes without saying, if you don’t have sound with your games, then your missing 1/2 of the play value..
Can you tell me what I need to do to fix this problem? I’d love to get rid of that annoying little picture of the speaker that comes on every time this happens.. I have my volume shut off since I don’t care to have my ears suddenly blasted when it shoots up the bar, but I still have to put up with that lousy image.. Please help! Thank you..

Hey LaptopFreak congrats on your site!
I have a problem with my speakers on my Toshiba Satellite A200 13O. Apparently the sort of broke – guess- after a fall so now the sound is hardly coming out of the left speaker while the right is dead.
Could you make a guide on how to replace them?
I ve already changed the keyboard twice myself but I think speakers would need more guidance.
I could just get spare parts on ebay so please if you have time reply!
Thnx a lot beforehand!
