Toshiba Satellite’s LCD screen stopped working

My Toshiba Satellite’s LCD stopped working. I tested by attaching an external monitor to it and the display works. I couldn’t figure out if it was the back light, LCD, or inverter. I’ve shinned a flashlight on the LCD and cannot see anything. Though when I dim the lights, I see the LCD lite up. Does anyone have any ideas?

Your laptop works with an external monitor and that means the motherboard and video card work properly.

It’s possible that the video cable got disconnected from the motherboard. I’ve seen it happening before a few times in some Toshiba Satellites models.

You’ll have to remove the laptop keyboard (go to www.irisvista.com for disassembly help for Toshiba laptops) and take a look at the connection between the video cable and motherboard.

If the video cable connector is half way out, push it back into connector on the motherboard. This might help to fix your problem.

My LCD Screen doesn’t always come up right. I have to constantly hit the Fn and F5 buttons to get the screen to work. When I connect an external monitor it works fine. I was told it may be my graphic card. I have the Toshiba Satellite A105-S4034; Model PSAA8U-0EV034…. is the graphic card connected to the motherboard. I want to try to do this myself, I took it to a computer store and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it (that was a complete waste of money)!!!

Hello, I have exactly the same problem as outlined in the original post. I would greatly appreciate you input. I checked the cable, it sits perfectly. I have tested the inverter board test points, as well as LCD test points – they all show reasonable voltages, resistances. Since I do not have a schematic, there is nothing else I could do with a voltmeter. The screen is recognized by Windows, but again, the picture never comes, just a black, lit-up screen. Could it be the motherboard, or an LCD circuit failure? Or is there a way to connect the LCD to a logic analyzer in order to attempt to capture the LCD image being transfered from host to the LCD?

    Kind regards,
    Mikhail

If the laptop screen is completely white but video on the external monitor works fine, check connection between the video cable and LCD screen.
It’s possible the video cable is not making good contact with the LCD screen. Reconnecting the cable might fix the problem.

My laptop works but I now have a dark screen each time I reboot. It’s a Toshiba Qosmios G20. I tried with an external monitor, and I was able to see Windows XP behind a screen filled with vertical & horizontal lines. I have changed the laptop screen for a new one & tested the inverter on the left side, at its testing points, but no voltage showed up on my multimeter. I really think the inverter is the culprit. Am I right in assuming this?

My Toshiba A105 will not change (scroll) from LCD to external to both. It will only work the LCD if no external is connected at boot, or external only if connected at boot. I changed the bios for display from AUTO to LCD & EXT RGB both on, but this changed nothing.

Is it possible that my FN keys (or at least some of them) are disabled? Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Hi All,
I have a Toshiba P105-S6197 with a LG Philips LP171WX2 (A4)(K7) screen. I am replacing it with Samsung LTN170WX-L05. When I plug the lcd cable(which came with the Samsung screen) onto the motherboard the machine does not turn on. Even when I plug in the power adapter the LED to indicate that the adapter is plugged in does not light up. I have disconnected the inverter and the problem still exist. Any idea as to the problem

Is there any reason you are not using the original LCD cable? Maybe you should use the original cable with the new Samsung screen?

My Toshiba L305 screen is very dim most of the time, I can barely see or read the screen. If I connect the laptop with an external monitor, I can see that everything is working.

What is the problem? Do I need to repalce CCFL light?

Have you tried adjusting the LCD screen brightness? Hold down the Fn key and at the same time tap a few times on the F7 key.
When the CCFL lamp or inverter fails, the LCD screen goes very dark. You still should be able to see the image under bright light, but you will not be able to use it.

My laptop is Acer Aspire 5100. The screen just shut off(like the screen of a computer when it is off/not in use) while my sister was browsing the net. When we turned it on again, nothing appeared on the screen though I already pressed the Fn+F5, or even adjust the brightness. The LED indicator for the hard drive respond which means I think is still working and even the optical drive worked too(it opened when I pressed the button and the LED indicator was also blinking). The computer was also plugged well in the outlet so power I guess should be a problem to consider.

Toshiba P205D LCD some times stop working (no image, lit-up screen. It works fine with an external monitor. Now the laptop monitor shows the desktop background (that is black image) as a red BG and the DT icons, but the external monitor shows it right (all black with icons).

What could I do to make it work again? should be the inverter, flat cable, LCD?

    Thanks for your help.

I am so sorry I did not check back. In response to #8 above, when I use the original cable the screen has shade of green(i.e. vertical lines throughout the all LCD)
