My dog knocked my laptop off the table and it stopped working
My dog knocked my laptop off the table when it was on now the laptop starts but no image appears on the screen. The light comes on when I press on the power button and the fan starts working, but the screen remains dark. I tested laptop with an external monitor and couldn’t get it to work. The external monitor worked before just fine.
Take a look in the memory compartment. It’s likely that one or both memory modules got dislocated from their slots.
Try reconnecting memory modules. Simply remove modules from their slots and install back. Power up the laptop and see if it fixed the problem.

I have to try turning it back on a couple of times before it starts working again (cursor) the first time it happen when it came back on it said that yahoo messenger was corrupted. after that i think i ran f-something and it repaired itself. but now it just shuts off when Im using it for a period of time, i relize that if I take a little while to turn it back on it comes on normally, what can i do to fix this, could it be a hard drive problem?

simone,
Could be overheating. Maybe the cooling module is clogged with dust and the laptop shuts down because the processor overheats.
Try cleaning the cooling fan and see if it helps.
By a can of compressed air (or use vacuum blower) and spray air into the air intake on the bottom. This should remove most dust. Test the laptop again.

I dropped my Archos 10 notebook on the floor and it now wont boot properly.
when I swich it on I get the first Intel black screen with options ” BIOS setup / boot menu / recovery / skip boot logo.
Then that changes to a black screen with a flashing white underscore.
Then changes to a page with this message
“reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key”
When I dropped it I dislodged one of the little screw down pannels on the back, which I unscrewed and put back in place.
Have I knocked the hardrive loose?

Hi,
My laptop got slammed shut when i was downloading files and then punched twice.
Its screen got broken but somehow still worked and got into windows log in screen after 10-20 mins once restarted.
I gave the laptop for repair but kept the hard disk with me.
When i got it back i turned it on with its hard disk but closed at windows loading screen after 10-15 mins of waiting.
the person who fixed it told me not to try opening it again or reinstalling windows warning me that it might make me lose its data. he advised me to copy the data to another laptop using sata hdd cable and then reinstall windows
Now When i use that cable it only shows 1 drive of 10 gb. While i have 2 … 1 of 10 gb and another of 210 gb.
What should i do ? the data is very important … is there any way to retrieve the data?

Dell inspiron 1525, 220 GB hard disk, windows Vista, 2gb ram, Dual core 2 ghz

Hi all,
I am using Toshiba S4527 laptop. Yesterday after using I turned it off properly but at evening when I put it on, the windows did not load only the fan remain on for 5 seconds and after that the fan also stops. I am unable to open CD-ROM, black screen, no message. Only battery is fine.
What could be the problem?

I got a laptop (Toshiba satellite A660) for my 16th birthday, only 23 days ago, i love it it was the best present my dad could give me, but i dropped it last night, accidentally of course, it just slipped out of my hands. I’m very upset. Nothing seems to be damaged, i turned it on, all the sounds are normal, fan stays on as it should, lights all come on and the “Toshiba leading innovation” comes on, meaning my screen still works. The first time i turned it on it got to the “windows starting” screen and wouldn’t move on, i left it for about 5 minutes, still nothing. So i turned it off, next time i turned it on it came up with a different screen, and asked me if i wanted to start up system recovery and fix any problems that my laptop may have or start up windows normally, i clicked windows recovery, it said it fixed any problems that my laptop may have had so i clicked finish, as it told me to, my laptop started up again, everything normal, sounds, lights, screen, it still didn’t work though,so i turned it off, then back on, it came up with the same thing, it asked me if i wanted to do the system recovery thing or start windows normally, i clicked start windows normally this time, i got stuck again on the “windows starting” screen, i left it again for about 5 minutes, then turned it off again, to see if it will work the next time i turned it on. But it didn’t. It doesn’t even ask me if i wanted to try system recovery now it just stays at a black screen. Please help me, i don’t want to give my dad anything else to that will bother him or cost money. Im freaking out.

Kassie,
It’s possible the hard drive is damaged.
Turn on the laptop and listen closely for the hard drive sounds. If you can hear grinding or repetitive clicking noise, it’s definitely bad hard drive.

Laptop Freak,
Sadly, i think you may be correct, i can hear an extremely faint grinding noise that is most likely what you say, a bad hard drive, but if i can recall correctly, i remember always hearing this noise, so im not entirely sure. Because i havnt had it for over 30 days and it’s still got one year warranty do you think they will give me a new one? Or not because i caused the damage? Thank you so much, you have been a big help (:

Hi I have an Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop. When I turn it on on a black screen it comes up 0d020000-0d02ffff coputer is reducing memory. At times the F1 & F2 functions come up, but pressing them does nothing. I don’t know if my memory chip has gone bad? When I first turn it on the windows screen comes on & then goes to black screen with the above message.
