Hi!
My laptop suddenly shuts down once in a while, and I suspect it being because of overheating. I got the fan cleaned out about 6 months ago, but the core temperatures are already back at 80 celcius… (it was sometimes 96 (!!!) before I got it cleaned, and it stopped turning of after the cleaning- now it started again) I am wondering if it would do wonders if I replace the cooling fan, and if so… which one is the best to choose? What type of fan should I look for? I have a HP pavilion dv5-1040eo.

Thanks a million! :)

Hi,

I have a toshiba a200 with core 2 duo 2.0 GHz for 3 years now and one day kepps shutting down unexpectedly... i opened the laptop and clean the heat sink, replaced the old thermal grease on both cores and GPU with artic cooling MX2 but it keeps shutting down... i tried turn the clock frequency to "always low" instead of dynamic, on bios settings (it runs on 800 MHz +- in this setting) and if i do this it won't shut down... i tried also to disable one of the cores(the second one also on bios) and ran a stress test, prime95 with realtemp and the temperatures didn't rise so much, around 63 ºC but it didn't shut down. When i had both cores enabled when temp reaches +-60ºC laptop shuts down... waht could be the problem? bios errors? short cicuits? bad LCD cables?

help please, thanks

Trisha,

My granddaughter triped over my power code on my compaq laptop now my screen shuts down like after I start it the screen goes black. If I touch the disply switch I can not see whats on the screen. If I angle it right I Can see my windows scree. Think I should get another switch and replace it?

Most likely it's not related to the display switch.
If the screen still has image but no light, most likely it's one of the following:
1. Damaged backlight lamp inside the LCD screen. If the laptop fell off the table and the screen stopped working after that, I think the backlight lamp inside the scree was damaged.
2. Could be loose connection between the video cable and LCD screen or motherboard or inverter board. Maybe the cable got disconnected when the laptop was dropped.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ71 laptop and the other day I was using Skype and watching some movie on youtube, then it suddenly turned off unexpected. It wasn't plugged in to the power so it was running on it's battery. I didn't understand what went wrong. Maybe it's a heating thing? It is used a lot within my household.

is there anything wrong?
