Paul,

windows is loading files then the startup repair menu comes on and says “windows cannot repair this computer automatically”

Probably your Windows OS corrupted and has to be reinstalled.
Check out these tips for reinstalling Windows OS.

I have a toshiba satellite l500d-oox when I start up my computer the screen says windows is loading files then the startup repair menu comes on and says "windows cannot repair this computer automatically" it then gives me two options "send information about problem (recommended)" or "Don't send" both do nothing I click finish and it shuts down the computer. What can I do, I restarted it in safe mode but anything I select in there restarts my computer and I go back to square 1. Please help. Thank you.

My Toshiba Satellite L25 laptop recently stopped working. I was trying to save a file on my computer and the AC cord got disconnected from the wall outlet. My laptop cannot keep a charge so it shut off immediately after it disconnected. I then tried to turn it on later but it gets stuck at the loading windows screen. When i try Safe Mode, it gets stuck at the last option. It is most likely a problem with the HDD but i don't know for sure. I want to use the recovery disk but i have some important files on that computer. I use to have a USB drive with those files but my brother didn't like me using it so he hid it. Please reply soon. thank you for your time.

I have a Satellite A85 whuch will boot up to Desktop but will not display any icons or the taskbar, so I cannot access the Start button. Everything that does show up on the desktop is frozen and cannot be moved. In order to shut off the laptop, I remove the battery and disconnect the power supply. I do not have a recovery disk as I bought it from my son when he was stationed in Irag and he had lost all the papers and CD.

Can I restore wihtout needing a Recovery CD?

I am not sure where to post a new question, I think I am doing it the correct way,at least as I understand the instructions under "Ask a question" section, if not I apologize.

I have a Toshiba Satellite 2805-S402 laptop that will not start. The laptop was not used for a while and when I start it up I get the following error message.
"Bad Checksum [CMOS]"
"Check System then press [F1]"
I know what is causing this, the cmos battery has lost its charge and the BIOS needs to be rest to factory defaults and then when booted into Windows to correctly set the system time.
Everything I can find doing searches as well as on the Toshiba website tells me that I need to hit the F1 key to get into the BIOS set up. Well when I do this nothing happens and I am now at a loss to know what to do. Some of the Toshiba's you hit the F2 key but on my model that takes you to a menu to select what device you want to boot from should you want to boot from something other than the hd.
Do any of you have any Ideas as to what might be wrong?
Thanks,
Robert

pete maldjian,

as soon as i connect the screen it shuts down at boot

This description is not very clear. Do you disconnect the video cable from the motherboard? The laptop will not start at all when the LCD screen is connected?

after booting withe external screen it will com on and the display is shrunk down on ri. side.

Maybe wrong screen resolution settings?
