Problems with USB port in Sony Vaio
I have Sony Vaio laptop and problems with my USB port will not read USB device, I keep getting the error no USB device available. I have tried to download new device, still not working.
If you have a problem with only one particular USB port, it’s definitely a hardware related issue. Most likely the USB port is damaged and has to be replaced. It means the entire laptop has to be disassembled, the damaged USB port has to be desoldered and replaced with a new one.
If you have the same problem with all USB ports, first of all check the USB device you are trying to use. Maybe the device itself is faulty. Test your laptop with another USB device.
If you experiencing he same problem with different USB devices, the problem is somewhere inside the laptop. It could be software or hardware related.
Here are some steps you can go through to find out what is wrong:
1. Go to the device manager and remove all USB related entries from the USB controllers. Restart the laptop and let it re-detect USB ports. Test USB ports. If it doesn’t help, go to the step 2.
2. Back up all personal files and reinstall the operating system from scratch. Test USB ports. If it doesn’t help, go to the step 3.
3. If reinstalling the operating system doesn’t fix your problem, it’s a hardware related failure. Most likely there is a problem with the motherboard and it has to be replaced.
If you don’t want to replace the motherboard, you can use a PCMCIA USB card instead. You plug this card into the PC slot and get two or four USB ports instead.

After falling asleep several times with my laptop on my lap, and it crashing to the floor, due to my wireless mouse strip being plugged in I have jack’d my usb’s up. I have a toshiba a205-s5809, I purchased a pcmcia card the brand is uxcell. well i cant get it to anything.. I have noticed that most of my friends pc’s take a card that is notched. can i use my pcmcia card. or do i need to look for a different style.. if I cant use it does anyone wanna buy it…

Your Toshiba Satellite A205 doesn’t have PCMCIA slot. It comes with ExpressCard/34 and ExpressCard/54 slot.
You’ll have to buy an ExpressCard/34 or ExpressCard/54 USB card.

I also have a Sony Vaio, and yesterday when I turned the computer on, I had an error saying that a USB device was not recognized – however, I did not have anything plugged into any of the USB ports. Later I tried to print something and it wouldn’t work. Today my computer wouldn’t even turn on. The green light would come on, but nothing would happen. After a while I unplugged the ac power, and when I back and plugged it in – it worked! However, I still had the USB error – even though nothing was plugged in. Later on, it decided not to turn on again – I finally got it back on, but the error pops up about every minute, and nothing that I plug into the USB ports will work.

I’ve experienced the same problem with my Sony Vaio on a Vista OS. The solution is quite simple whenever you have problems with your USB ,Bluetooth or with your WIFI. its a matter of unplugging everything like >> the power, the Battery and all that are connected to your USB ports and if Ethernet is connected remove it aswell and leave it for 10 mins. then plug everything again and turn it on. Voila problem solve.
This is the best ever solution i’ve had. Tried deleting \windows\inf files, deleting USB hubs thru Hardware Manager, downloaded update software from Sony for my laptop and even downloaded SP from Microsoft (days of troubleshooting) with no result.

İf your usb ports are lost Remove the battery and restart again, it is a know problem, silly windows doesnt erease memory even if you shut down and restart, one must remove the battery for a complete clean restart, several times I lost the usb ports after removing batteries problem solved.

Will removing the battery delete all my word etc files from the laptop?
