I have a dell laptop M140. When I turn it on the screen is a distorted mess. Nothing but large splashes of black shapes, one area has different colored horz. lines and a lot of the screen is white. Of course nothing works. Can plug into an external monitor and everything works ok. Do I need a whole new lcd? What do I do next?

I have an HP dv9720 (US). The lcd will only display the top half of a page, and freeze, unless I press on the LCD in the left middle section, then it appears to work fine, as long as I hold pressure there. I removed the LCD and checked the connections -even powered it up while the back of the lcd was exposed to see if moving the ribbon connector might be loose, not luck. I need to know if this is a LCD issue or an inverter?

Thanks,

benjamin,

why keep on telling stories electronic is theory plus practical.

Agree. First you troubleshoot the problem and then you fix it.
My posts are not stories, they are troubleshooting steps.
If you want to get practical, at least mention the laptop model number and what is going on.
You know, your question sounds like: "My car doesn't work. How can I fix it?". Be more specific.

hi, my dad gave me a toshiba satellite A135 and after powering it on it whirs the screen comes up dim and reddish then goes black. all of the lights in the front are blue. i have been scouring all over trying to figure it out, and I ordered a new battery and adapter off ebay (hasn't come yet) because I took a DIY quiz on the Toshiba site and that's what they recommended, a new adapter (except their's is 100 bucks!) so, please, any help would be appreciated, I am desperate to fix this, I'm a single mom with school aged kids and we all need this to be fixed. =)
thanks for your comments!

Have a 2 year old Dell M1330 laptop. Yesterday the screen went black then came back on then black again and after that the screen turned teal and went nuts..... like it almost looked like if you went to a tv channel that wasn't there. Then I shut it off because nothing would work and tried turning it on and it came to a white screen and after ten mins could see a screen that said something but the image was super blurry and I could not read it, only see an outline of the box on the screen. Now it came back on, but it has happened twice. Any ideas???? Let me know what you think! Thanks!!!!!
