Steve Friedman,

how do I take apart a Dell Inspiron 1000 in order to re-solder the jack plug?

I posted step-by-step jack repair guide for Dell Inspiron 1000 here: http://www.asklaptopfreak.com/laptop-notebook-help/2010/12/12/resolder-jack-dell-inspiron-1000/

I just used this wonderful site to fix the power jack on a Toshiba P305D. The very thin plastic clip holding it broke. I used my hot melt glue gun to mostly surround the existing jack, thus bracing it against the speaker without interfering with any other parts. Sweet.

I have a IBM Thinkpad X41 2525-18U that is in almost "perfect" condition so, I just don't want to give up on it quite yet.

Problem: Using an almost new AC Adapter and mounting the laptop on a working docking station, I get absolutely NO power to the unit. No lights....no sounds....NADA.

If it weren't for the fact that the unit won't work in the docking station, I'd say the AC plug in the unit is bad but...???

Do you, as an expert, have an opinion? Mine is that the MOBO is shot and I'll have to replace it.

Hope I'm wrong ;).......

With the vostro 1500 right behind the dc jack are 2 black components that are listed on the board as PL1, PL2. after you have replaced the dc jack make sure that you also reflow (heat up the solder) on those 2 components they will commonly have a cold solder that can have symptoms as a bad dc jack.
