HP Pavilion dv6000 will not start when I push power
I have a HP Pavilion dv6000. I push power and it flashes for a second then nothing. The power supply is fine, as is the battery. The place I bought it says I should just buy a new one for the price of repairs. How do I know if it’s Mother Board, or could bad memory cause this symptom?
First of all, make sure the power supply works properly. You can test it with a voltmeter.
If the power supply is fine, your problem could be related to the memory or motherboard failure.
Most likely your HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop has two memory (RAM) modules installed. Both memory modules can be accessed from the laptop bottom.
Try removing memory modules one by one. Test your laptop with each memory module in either memory slot.
If you have the same problem when only one memory module installed, most likely this is the motherboard failure. It’s very unlikely that both memory modules failed at the same time.
By the way, some HP Pavilion dv6000 have a known problem with the motherboard and HP fixes this issue at no charge if your laptop qualifies.

this is unfortunately a common problem with the DV2000/DV6000/DV9000 and as stated i would call hp and see of they will fix under the defect that released for this issue.

My Toshiba Satellite P200 suddenly went dead. It was fully charged and plugged in at the time. I tried powering it back on assuming it was a thermal shutdown. No indicators were coming on. I tried it without the battery with same results. Later when checking the power cord / charger was showing proper voltage but the battery had been drained ( it apparently does drain in 1.5 days, so that should be expected I guess ). I disassembled the laptop and checked the power plug, it was working fine and the power seemed to come up to the motherboard. My conclusion would be that something on the motherboard has shorted. Is there anything else I could check before ordering a replacement motherboard.

Hi everyone. I have a question that I didn’t see in any of the closely related categories for notebook shuts down, power problem and connection issues. My question is why does not Acer -9500 series labtop sometimes not want to turn off by a few clicks on the mouse?

I recently bought an hp touchsmart tm2, and the other day left it loading a video on iplayer, when I got back to it it switched itself off, I presume from lack of power. I plugged it in and it displayed an orange battery light and wouldn’t turn on, but then when the light turned white it still wouldn’t turn on, with or without the ac adapter. Apart from that it was running fine. Any ideas how to make it work?!

Hi
Hope this is the right place to post this. I have broken my friends hp dv6500 laptop by accedently kicking it, sounds stupid but i realy didnt mean to. It was on when I kicked it and swithced off straight away, and would not turn back on. Since then I have taken apart his entire laptop and put everything back as it was… I hope. Once everything was back, i tried pressing on again. This time the laptop switches on (I can hear it and the fan starts spinning) but the computer does 4 short beeps and then goes into what i think is sleep mode. so all the lights are on but the screen stays black, and the power button flashes instead of staying on, this is why I think its sleep mode. however after a few minutes normally, it switches off again. After leaving it last night in this state, I returned to it this morning and tried switching it on, to my surprise it turned on as normal. I got onto windows and even checked that games and music still work, everything was fine, however after a couple of minutes it switched off again. Since then it does not switch back on properly, just lets lights glow as previously and computer goes into sleep (i think) but the strange this is, that when power supplie is connected, the laptop will switch on and off on its own occurd, without me pressing anything, just on and off, every 20sec or so.
Please help me, I really do to get this ficed as I can not buyy him a new one.
Thanks Chris

I have had problems with my6 HP Pavillon DV6000. It seems like once a year I have to replace the power cord. The cord starts to chirp at the transformer in the middle of the cord. I have purchased four in about 4 years. Seems to be an abnormal amount in such a short time.

Hi, thanks for website.
My HP pavilion DV7 1245ef laptop don’t turn on anymore with full battery or connected to power source.
My problem is the following : power led don’t light on when I connect the power cable to my mother board. power supply is ok as i already test it with another pc and with a full battery, the laptop don’t power on also !
I am afraid the motherboard is dead but is there a way to quickly test it ? if I remove everything connected to the motherboard (ddr2, hard drive, screen) except power cable should the power led light on ??
I spent a lot of time to repair this laptop and now I am blocked because I don’t know laptop motherboard behavior.
Best regards and thanks for your help !

Hi,
I have dead dv6000 laptop with an intel CPU. Ever since I bought it, the battery used to give me 15-25 min. Right now it went dead. I checked the power adapter it is OK 19V. Power jack seems OK but I’m not so sure. Power/USB DC jack (part number 431446-001) supplies power to the M/B. 2 cables from the power connector are connected to the M/B. I tested the cables as 19.1V and the other is 0V.
My questions are
a) Are the above readings normal or is the power connector faulty?
b) If the power connector is OK, what should I check next ? , should I check the power switch , some fuse or mosfets? Please advise, would appreciate if you direct me to sites that provide articles or otherwise help in diagnosing laptop M/B.
