What is VGA port on my laptop?
What is a VGA port and where is it because I dropped my laptop and the screen is broken and I would love to get my pictures on my home computer.
The VGA port looks like one shown on the picture below. It’s a D-shaped connector with 15 holes.

If the laptop screen is broken, you use the VGA port to connect an external monitor. In some cases you’ll have to force the laptop to switch from the internal screen to the external monitor using a keyboard shortcut. For example, on Toshiba laptop you’ll have to hold down the Fn key and at the same time press on a F5 key until video appears on the external monitor. Different laptop brands have different keyboard shortcuts.
Alternatively, you can remove the hard drive from the laptop and install it into an external USB enclosure. After that you connect this enclosure to the home computer, access the hard drive and get all your pictures. This post explains how to retrieve files from a laptop with damaged screen.

Hi! I’m not sure if I’m posting in the right place…I tried to follow the directions…but I have a question of my own!
This morning I dropped my Lenovo Thinkpad laptop from a couple of feet onto a hard floor. Now, the screen flashes in lines and different places at random intervals. Is this fixable? Maybe a soldering issue?
Thanks!!

Jared Wicker,
It’s hard to tell what’s going on without looking at the laptop. Take a look a closer look at the laptop screen. Is it cracked? If yes, you’ll have to replace the screen.

about the VGA connector, most of the new computer they are not being built in and they are opting to use HDMI. this is only on laptops that have been purchased in the last year to year and a half.
