How to change keyboard on Dell Studio XPS 1640 laptop?
I accidentally spilled a little soda on my Dell Studio XPS 1640 laptop. The keyboard still works but some keys are sticky. I would like to replace the keyboard myself but it looks like this model is different than any other laptop I worked on.
Can you help me to replace the keyboard?
You are correct. Your Dell Studio XPS 16 laptop built a little different than most other laptops.
In order to remove and replace the keyboard, you’ll have to remove the palm rest assembly first.
Take a look at this service manual for Dell Studio XPS 16 series laptop. The manual has step by step laptop disassembly instructions.
If you need a new keyboard, you will find it here. A new keyboard for this model is less than $30.

In responce to “mehdy”
There is a good chance that you have a faulty memory module. The Toshiba A10 takes PC2100 DDR1 memory modules which is quite cheap to buy and simple to replace.

I have a problem with an MSI U130 MSI-N014 netbook i was just wondering can i disconnect this keyboard like any other keyboard, but be cautious of screws ? also do you know of any useful websites with cheap keyboard replacements as ebay does not have any at all other than spares and repairs laptop parts?

Thanks ever so much for the diagram. I’m sure it will be of use in the forthcoming days. My XPS has decided that only a few keys wish to work and I have to use an external keyboard. I’m assuming a new keyboard will fix this little problem

My Dell inspiron 4010 laptop is having a problem with its keyboard. The “PrintScr” key is in the pressed state for ever. Can i repair it back myself? Or a hardware change is required?
